A Little Personal News
My Daughter is pregnant again :) This time her man stepped up to the plate and I am going to have a GrandSon. As my Great Grandma NeNe used to say, "It takes a man to make a man". :)
So, my daughter has been ordered 5 months bedrest. And with her already having our GrandDaughter, my wife and I will be with her for most of the 5 months. Of course, I will be the one driving back and forth on this 6 hour round trip ride for different things here and there. But, I am basically living in my daughters house for the next 5 months.
When your kids need you, they need you. Nothing is more important. I am setting up a high speed network at her house so, actually, you guys will probably not see a difference with me here or back home. See...I am at my daughters now and you didn't even notice :)

OK...everyone knows how I feel. I no longer feel the need to spit out the same thing about it. Unless there is a specific question to me, I will not speak of it again. I am just too sick of saying the same thing over and over. I am also pulling the javes stuff to make room for the link list. I also do not want to bring any heat to anyone here that doesn't want it.

Pushing your site's potential

In your efforts to force the full potential from your sites, you may find that it requires nothing more than installing a banner rotator so your surfers don't grow bored with, or even immune to, the same advertising every time they visit. You may find that following MrMaryLou's advice of trashing your graphic banners entirely and replacing them with well-written text links will drastically increase your click-thrus. (That's something I am in the midst of doing right now) Perhaps your navigation is unintentionally misleading or bringing surfers to your 404 page. You may, however, find yourself needing to make some pretty drastic changes, just as I have.
A couple of weeks ago, I was wandering through one of my sites, a TGP called Whoring Wives, and I came to the realization that it could be so much more than what it had become. The site was doing OK, but the level of traffic had long since plateaued with no hope of increase and there was an overwhelming dullness to it. It was never going to reach its potential while holding the status quo. I decided to make Whoring Wives into a link list. But how does one transform a TGP into a link list? The answer is simple. You don't. All of your bookmarkers are accustomed to clicking links to galleries, not free sites, and you don't want to lose your entire traffic base by removing the very thing they have come to enjoy. So, the only option available was to create what our beloved Greenguy refers to as a 'morphed conglomerate', that is, a site which lists both galleries and free sites. Tommy's Bookmarks and DangerDave are probably the best examples of morphed conglomerates and my guess is that they are doing pretty well for themselves.
I consider myself fortunate as I am not straying into uncharted waters. As I've said, what I am doing with my site is simply altering the business model from one format to another known successful model. But some of you may want to develop your traffic site's potential by doing something you haven't seen done elsewhere. My advice to you - just do it. Asking the opinions of others in advance almost always ends in negative reactions. People get locked into what they think to be the only way in which to make money from a traffic source and tend to believe that altering that model will decrease it's earning potential. But if you do the same exact thing as everyone else who has come before you, you'll truthfully never be able to compete with them. Hence, don't share your ideas. Follow them through and see how they play out. Then, when it's successful and people like me begin to copy you, you can say that you broke the mold. You saw the potential and reached for it. You did it first.
