Needs some input on email

My IP address got blocked for a few days by spamhaus.org because some asshole was spamming with it.

It's back and working now as It seems they have a timeout on these blocks that can last anywhere from 2 days to a year. I was wondering if I should kill my current email and use another? The only thing is this is the one I've been using for sponsors, TGP's & LL submits for years so I would have to go thru alot of shit to change them all.

Any thoughts?

I hate Spamhaus. Way too damn quick to add IP's to their block list. And way too damn difficult to get it removed once blocked.

I'd double check with the ISP or host to make sure they've taken steps to prevent a repeat of the spamming, then keep the same addy. As you said, changing it everywhere would be a major pain in the posterior.

I would keep the email and try to find out how or from where did someone stole my email to spam.

My advice is worth 4 cents and it is this:

Put sendmail behind firewall and don't allow it to be accessed. Buy your domains from a company that gives you a free email account. Let them handle the smtp. Fucking sendmail/postfix - A: make no sense, and B: are too easy to use for nefarious reasons like spamming.

If you meant he is just using you email address in the "reply to" field, then it's the fault of the admin on the machines that run those servers for not blocking that shit. They are the ones that need to be blacklisted not you.

Getting back to your question, don't you already have several email addresses you can use? I have at 4 for doing different things.

If you are having problems submitting because the link lists don't recognize your new email, send them an email explaining the situation.

Yep, shitty, lazy admins, including those that bounce :fail messages instead of sending to the blackhole drive me crazy.

bluemoney, perhaps you can ask your host to change your domain to a different IP? Even if you have to pay for it, it would certainly be a better option than changing your email address with numerous sponsors and link trades.

whitey, :fail uses less server resources than :blackhole, which is why it is the preferred option by hosting companies.
