How Do You Play The Domain Name Game

One of the things I plan on doing more of in 2006 is buying domain names, I figure .com Domain Names are like Ocean Front Property and can only go up in value if you sit on them long enough.
I have over 100 now and want to at least double that in 2006. One of my strategies is buying domains with the same word or phrase in them
for example I have 45 domains with the name of my favorite Mexican city in them, 15 with RSS in the name and 6 with XXX in the name. I'm also buying 9 letter and under domains to put adsense sites on for now but would be of real value to the right person down the road
like LawGab, HearingMD and GutBets.
Now my questions, is this a good strategy?
am I right in not worrying about a domains history because this is a long term plan?
what's the best way to find expired domain names?
I'm using Sedo.com for parking but am thinking about trying http://www.fabulous.com anyone using them?
The best tool I know of for finding domain names is http://www.domainsbot.com/ is there anything better?

another one thats creatively good is http://www.nameboy.com Pancho - it goes a bit wider with its keyword search!

If I were you I would get some free auction script and put the site up now with all the domains on with reserves set at what you think they may be worth. That way by the time they are REALLY worth that much the site will be indexed on all the Se's and ready to go.

some other good domain related links are: http://www.expireddomains.com/
http://www.digitalpoint.com/tools/suggestion/
http://www.clickmojo.com/
http://www.deleteddomains.com/today_deletions.php
http://rwm.net/virtualis/domain/twist.htm (this one you can input words and it will suggest names for you, the only thing i don't like about it, is it shows you ones that are already taken and there's not a lot of results to choose from

I hope that helps you out a bit ;o))

I think that direct navigation will erode some of the search engines traffic. I've been picking up names recently as a long term investment for this. Direct navigation is where the surfer types a guess domain into his address bar to see what he gets (well more or less ).
