Went over them and it's now down here in the Keys.
Lost power, got it back, lost it and back again this morning. We're under tornado watch right now with a big waterspout moving through the waters just south of here. Hopefully it will be past us soon. Good wishes to those it passed already, hope you get your power back soon. Simon

No power yet but I do have a generator and a one room A/C so I slept like a baby.
Lots of trees and branches down including one blocking my street, my driveway, and one on my roof that doesn't look like it damaged my roof so just lots of cleanup. Fueled the generator this morning and I have enough fuel for another 48 hours. Going to go buy a chain saw today as soon as Home Depot opens so that I can remove the fallen branches and also see if I can refill my three empty 5 gallon gas cans. Cable modem is down so I'm using my backup ADSL. Going to take down all my storm shutters after I drink my morning espresso and wake up. I'm in good shape but most of my friends called me, like Angel, with no power and no storm supplies so they are all sitting in the dark hot, sweating, and bored. |

"CNN Breaking News" just emailed me to tell me that : The eye of Hurricane Katrina makes landfall near the Miami-Dade-Broward county line, the National Hurricane Center says.
If I'm not mistaken that's somewhere where Cleo is located? |

The eye went right over where I live. I grew up down here but this is the first time that I've ever been in the eye of a hurricane. Oddly the storm turned south after it made landfall and hit Miami hard too.
This storm was much worse then anything we got where I live last year since we got a direct hit unlike last year's storms which hit north Florida. I'm really happy that I put up all my storm shutters yesterday. Looks like I was the only one on my block that did put them up. What a difference having a generator and proper storm supplies make. |

Just took a walk around my property. Looks like the worst thing that happened to me was having about 40 feet of old wooden fencing fall over. Went up on my roof and everything looks good and I didn't even loose any roof tiles.
Off to go take down my shutters… |

We have all the downstairs shutters on and most of the upstairs ones.
I think we're getting what the mainland got yesterday (maybe a little less). It's still blowing hard here and rain is pouring down. Power's been out a dozen times since earlier post. Coffee and thumbnails for breakfast. (No, not mine, silly... wait, that doesn't really sound any better, does it? Okay... having coffee and making some custom thumbnails.... yeah, that's a little clearer). Not quite wide awake yet but working on it. Simon

Morning all, we are well north of this hurricane so no damage. It rained on/off a few times yesterday, but other then that no problems.... Hardly any wind.
Of course it looks like it's going to head north and then maybe across the state so who knows what will happen Sunday. |

Not much here other than some wind and rain, but then, I was a bit north of it. I haven't walked around the yard to see if there is any wind damage, but, I suspect other than a few broken branches, we escaped unscathed. Power blinked a few times last night, but, not long enough to reset any clocks.
http://radar.weather.gov/radar/lates.../si.kamx.shtml http://sun-sentinel.com/ http://www.srh.noaa.gov/tlh/tropical/ Miami Herald has some decent reporting, but, requires that free registration that many people dislike.

Yep, I was wondering how you faired Cleo...glad there was no significant damage.
We got very little effect up here on the gulf side. A bit of gusty wind...some rain...nothing big at all. Just another day in paradise |

Still no power, but generator is doing great and slept in my nice and cool bedroom with my one room A/C. Home Depot was on generator power and was open so I bought a new leaf blower, electric one this time. A electric chain saw that attaches to a long pole and a gas powered chain saw. I wanted a larger gas powered chain saw but all they had left was 10" ones.
Down to less then 10 gallons of gas so after I spend some time trimming fallen branches I'm going gas hunting. Still have phone service and backup ADSL. Hoping that real power gets restored before I loose phone and ADSL. |

Yesterday we lost all power, cable, phone, dsl, you name it, even cell service has been out for the second day now. The wind and rain did not stop here all day and all night, finally clearing some this morning.
Making this post on battery power and an old dial-up aol account during now and then phone service, which is all that's come back at all yet. One of the trees fell yesterday too, hiting the roof of the boat house but looks like no damage. Lots of neighbors have trees down. Going to be slow going here until services come back. Apologies to those folks I lost in mid-IMs yesterday. Simon

After almost starting to take apart breaker boxes trying to figure out why half my bedroom had no power I finally decided to check the two breakers on the generator. Now I know that if one of them trip I only loose power to part of my house which makes perfect sense seeing as that would be one leg of the 220 circuit.
Got the electric chain saw that is on a pole stuck in the tree branch on the east side of my house that is laying partly on my roof. I would use the gas one but I don't want to be that close to it when it finally does break free from the couple of remaining inches that is holding it from crashing to the ground. Guess I need to go back to Home Depot and buy a come along or whatever that thing is called that has a cable and a crank so that I can wrap in around the branch and pull it down from a safe distance. Once I get it laying on the ground it shouldn't be too bad to cut up and put out with the rest of the yard derbies. Got my front yard all cleaned up. Still have a not that big rubber tree on the east side that knocked over two sections of old fencing. Once I get the tree off it I'm going to see if I can just reuse the fencing or if I need to call someone to replace those sections. It's getting hot out so I may wait until late this afternoon for more cleanup and I need to go gas hunting anyway. I think it's time to relax for a bit in my nice and cool bedroom that has the A/C cranked up. Guess I will not be needing to go to the gym for a week or so… |

Yeah it has turned into a major hurricane. Not looking good for New Orleans at all.
Power is back on. Tree branch is off my roof and is now a huge pile of tree pieces that I have to drag all around my house, through the gate, and out to the street. Still have to start on the downed rubber tree that knocked down part of my fence. Hoping to have all the yard work down within three days. I see that there is two more storms out there that may be headed our way. |
