Have you ever tried to quit smoking?

I'm trying to quit smoking for a couple of months, but after the first day, I'm on a warpath. I am agitated as hell and in very bad moods... Have you ever quit trying to smoke before? I dont smoke cigs, but it's one in the same imo.

LowryBigwood I did just quit smoking cigs after 25 years this past month. Using the nicotine gum and doing okay. I still smoke the herb but have quit that before with not nearly the trouble of cigarettes! When you quit the herb you`ll feel a bit irritable for one two or a few days but grunt through that and it should be no big deal. Like anything you have to want to quit and also stay busy with other things. When the urge strikes take a few deep breaths and go do something else. After so long being stoned being straight can be a trip too!

lowry, you might want to take whatever your favorite headache medicine as you go along. That can help you be a little more calm and a little less irritable. Active in MJ is THC, which means you are suffering through a small amount of withdraw. You might want to read up on that.

I used to smoke the herb a few years back. Don't know if you call it the same in the U.S, but it was rocky (resin), and bush. Both same thing, packaged differently. I led a pretty stressful life and it was a culture thing...so indeed was cocaine, but I avoided that, despite people putting it in my pockets on numerous occaisions.

Soon as my baby came along, I quite because I didn't want to be stoned around her.

So quiting herb was a piece of piss for me.

However, what might be useful to you is how I quit smoking.

I had my last smoke on New Year's Eve of 2003 and haven't touched one since. How did I do it? I went cold turkey : the only way to properly beat it.

Get some chewing gum, rent a shit load of movies, and only work if you have to / feel like it. Take a week off if you have to.

I looked at smoking as the way some people diet. They stop eating chocolate bars, but instead have those crappy 28 calories bars. All the diet bars make them want to do is eat the real thing. Same with smoking. Patches, fake cigs, pills, none of it works.

It's old-fashioned, but you basically have to just stop, and tell yourself that the withdrawal symptoms will get better each day.

After 1 week of quiting I was over the main hump, a month later I knew I'd never smoke again.

My advice : remeber that withhdrawal symptoms will diminish day by day, get some gum and movies, and just wait the fucker out.

I smoke weed pretty regularly, especially if I'm going to the gym, but I also often go days without smoking weed, especially if I'm doing tech work.

I do worry about the effects of weed on my lungs but since it is the only thing I do, I don't drink or anything else, I just figure that we all seem to need at least one form of intoxicating relaxant.

When you quit smoking and get the urge, lift a few weights until you're nicely sore then chug some water. The natural buzz of the workout is powerful stuff. It's all misdirection and replacing one thing with another as a "habit" and you're through it before you know it.
Now wheres my garbage bag full of....... nothin. I swear.

I smoked most of my younger life both pot and cigs but I no longer smoke either.

I don't think there is much of a physical addiction to pot. If any at all. I think its all mental.

Nicotine on the other hand is a real monkey.

What people don't usually get about pot is that you are actual under the influence for days. Even though you only seem 'high' for a little while. Go like three days without smoking to get out of this influence then it is all mental after that.

Some great replies everyone. I am only planning on quitting for a couple of months, i think my body needs some time to purge this outta my system. I've been stoned for about the last 5 years, almost every single day. I just finished smoking up the last of the hydro I had, Koosh, Northern Lights, Bubble Gum, & Blue Northern, and I just cant see myself trying to smoke dirt weed again. So that's why I'm taking a break from it, not because I really want to quit. hehe.

Lowry I know what you mean. Nowadays the strains are so much more potent that the lungs get a bit more weary. The head a bit more hazy. I think taking break once in a while is more important for smokers nowadays more than ever. Different from the days of low potency gold and brown weed smoked in mass quantities now more like two bong hits to discombobulation!

A few days and you should be fine. Keep busy like I am with the cig thing. When you get the urge build a sales page! Boredom is a big trigger for any type of indulgence.

I used to smoke weed
But then I realized it was OK for women and children but men, need to keep their heads on straight
Besides, it makes me really stupid and paranoid.

But, considering there are no addictive properties in weed, it is easy to stop.

Yeah I guess it is easy to stop, but after doing something so long, it's like second nature, or habbit or whatever. This my 2nd day now, lol, and I'm not quite as agitated as I was yesterday. It makes me paranoid too, but I seem to be able to concentrate better and get more web work done when i'm high...

Anyone else experience something like this?

Pot never did a damned thing for me except make me paranoid for a couple of hours before I fell dead asleep. I've known people who actually were more creative and focused while high, and a lot more people who thought they were, but really weren't terribly. (*cough* ex-husband *cough*) So, but anyway - this sounds cliche, but chamomile tea really is amazing for helping you chill out if you're feeling stressed. You might also want to look into ginseng with royal jelly - you can get it in nifty little ampoules at pretty much any health food store. It gives a mild buzz and seems to provide a unique kind of mental clarity. Hmm, I need to get myself some, now that I think of it.

Yes.. Weed does more than just get me high. It does what traditional medication for people like me couldn't, it keeps me in a calm state of mind and I'm definitely more productive while using it.

Cleo,
I'm not picking a fight with you,but how do you work out at the gym under the influence of that stuff? All that weight lifting ang everything?
The last time I smoked the stuff was about 30 years ago when I was in the Navy. Even the captain smoked it. He even managed to steer us up onto some rocks LOL.

I find that if I smoke weed I get really into whatever I'm doing. It also acts like a stimulate with me.

I also will smoke weed if I'm going to clean house or wash my car or something like that. Anything that is pretty much a mindless activity. Just crank up the music and get going. I've ended up on the floor scrubbing corners of a room with an old toothbrush I'll get so into cleaning when I'm stoned.

I don't smoke weed if I want to go to sleep, fix a computer or something like that.

Today I smoked some weed, put on my iPod, and went for a bike ride to the beach. I ended up bicycling 8 miles or so and would have been still biking if it wasn't for the weather getting chilly.

I find it much harder to sit here 12-20 hours at time like i normally do, without smoking all day. I guess I just gotta get used to it.

I spent the weekend with some old friends and I mentioned this thread to 2 people that I know smoke daily as far as I know. They both claimed they become more irritable when they don’t smoke for a few days. One said she slept much better on days that she smoked.
