Living in a construction zone
I'm feeling like I'm trapped in a TV episode of This Old House and I'm going to wake up next to Bob Vila.
Tile guy stripped my bathroom down to bar walls and floor today, plumber is coming Saturday to put in the pan and I went to Home Depot for sinks and valves so I have plumbing supplies in my living room. Speaking of that room I took a hammer to the wall mirrors so that they can put in a return for the A/C that is getting moved on Tuesday. I have roofing supplies all over the place and a half finished roof so any day now I'm going to be woken up by load Latin music and the sound of large footsteps on my roof. The white carpet that is throughout my house now looks like something in a crack house and I guess will soon be ripped out anyway. The only rooms that are not a mess now is my office and the guest room that I'm sleeping in. The worst thing is I can't sleep past sunrise since I hate not being showered and dressed when workers show up and I never know what day they are going to show up next. I'm hoping to be back in my bedroom by the end of this month but as soon as I am my kitchen and guest bathroom gets ripped out not to mention the rest of the house getting tile and the walls and ceilings getting textured. It is fun going to Home Depot and picking out stuff. It is kind of scary writing all these huge checks. |

Here you go. They are in kind of a strange order. I just quickly grabbed the ones that I thought showed things.
I'm actually taking gigs of pics. The originals are 2000x3000 pixels. It is still strange at times for me not having to worry about film. www.terrizamore.com/house/this-old-house/ |

It gets WAY worse before it gets better. At least your contractors seem to be jumping to start the job- knock on wood they will finish without too many delays.
But there are always delays. And home remodeling will chew thru the cash. |

Yeah it is going to get way worse. I'm going to be without a real kitchen for probably a few months as I can't even order the cabinets before it is gutted so that it can be measured properly.
I'm going through some amazing amounts of money. So far 16K for new roof, 2k for new fence, 2K to upgrade my electrical, 5K for tree removal, 16k for tile through my whole house and redo two showers, 2k for new pans in both showers, 2K for new drywall and insulation in master bedroom, closet and bathroom. Looks like the kitchen is going to cost about 25K for everything but really will not know until I get more into it. I also need to replace a few doors in my house. Then there is the constant trips to Home Depot that are always in the hundreds of dollars. |

In the before pic there is a mattress in the hallway. The door at the end of the hallway is my bedroom. You can also see this door still in the same place in the after pic.
KItchen after I ripped it out. http://cleos-porn-links.com/crap/hou...itchen-now.htm This shows the wall that I ripped halfway out and put the bar area. http://cleos-porn-links.com/crap/10-...s/DSC_0169.htm This is the after from the same viewpoint (almost) http://cleos-porn-links.com/crap/my-...s/DSC_0006.htm |

I feel for you cleo I done a few rooms in my old house thats almost a 100 years old and gutted a few roooms down to the studs, celing and all and to boot the old walls had old laff board and what a mess you have to use a shovel to scoup up the plaster off the floor and then take all the boards off the studs and the dust is unbelieveable if you didnt have a mask I think it would kill you and a few other rooms I was able to drywall over the old walls and ran new wiring and plumping for a dishwasher and disposable and put it all together and this is how crazy I am I never tured The power off I did all the wiring to a whole room with live wires changed all the old wall boxes and put new outlets in and never once got shocked, if you know what your doing.. and I do..

Looks great Cleop and I bet it feels wonderful every time you look at the new stuff without any plaster dust on it. My favorite is that clay pigs head you have hanging on the wall. That's a classic item that will never go out of style

I got that pig's head down in Miami many years ago and is one of my favorite pieces. I almost dropped it and broke it at the pottery store when I picked it up to check it out and a giant toad jumped out of it and landed in my bra. It was then that I just knew I had to have it and bought it.
Sometime in the coming months I want to rip out most of the decking that covers most of my back yard. The wood has seen its better days and isn't really needed anymore. I decked my whole back yard after installing white carpet in my house to try to keep dirt from getting tracked into my house. Now that the carpet is gone I want to go back to just having a few walkways through my backyard. I guess one day I really should paint the outside of my house… |
