Any banner rotating script which works with SP2?

I bet I'm not the only one relying on JavaScript on my pages...

do you know of any alternative scripts for banner and ad text rotation which actually are working with IE and SP2, and with Netscape, Opera, Modzilla, etc.?
That would be a good start...but there's more to fix.

SP2 sux BIG TIME!

I am using phpadsnew and have no problems viewing or displaying ads to sp2 users

What I didn't read (cause I couldn't find):
· can you edit the alt text for banners?
· and more importantly: can you ad text to the banner?
like I have text above and below the banners which is rotated together with the banners (= it matches each individual banner).

The answer to your questions, George, is yes. Phpadsnew is a little complex to get set up, but once you do it's powerful as hell.

I set up all my ads as "html", which is one of the options on the program. You can just create the ad in your favorite html editor (or hand code it) and then paste it into phpadsnew. Then I use a remote javascript call to insert the ad wherever I want it, like so

<script src="http://domains.com/phpads/js/amateur.js" type="text/javascript"></script>

You can see how it works here

Hit reload a few times and watch the ad above the enter button.

There are a few drawbacks to doing it this way, and I don't have a clue how it works with sp2, but it's the best compromise I could come up with.

And yes you can do all those things with just the banner loaded into phpadsnew, you can put text below, (unfortunately not above), alt tags, mouseover, and more! You can have your ads show up differently each day, by where the traffic is coming from, by what language they use on the computer, anything, it's amazing!

Yeah I never clicked on your site link in that thread and I wasn't the one that reviewed your site that you submitted.

We do our reviews using a really crappy version of IE5. That was the last version of IE ever made for the Mac and is a real piece of crap which is why we use it. It doesn't have console blocking, doesn't display bmp files, chokes on bad code real easy, basically it is great for doing reviews because of this.

I surf using Safari and your site in that thread looks fine in Safari as I just looked at it. What the hell is the blue string sticking out of her twat?

I do the same i.e. use IE5 for mac os when reviewing.. I think it is the only thing this version is good for.

urb, yeah, that is a trick of firefox. If you type anything in the address bar, it returns the #1 listing for that term from google (or perhaps others if you change to another SE).

It does make #1 listings a little more powerful, although firefox is still a small % of surfers.

As a side note, I should point out that javascript is basically end user code. The end user's computer has to process it. There is no way to assure that (a) they have java active, and (b) that there version of java they have is really working, and (c) that they don't have some sort of blilcking program that filters out all the useful tags.

Therefore, as a banner delivery system, javascript is a VERY bad way to go. It is very likely that a large percentage of your banners will be blocked.

Another answer for George -

You can avoid using Javascript with PhpAdsNew by using Local Invocation (which uses PHP calls and not javascript). If you want to do this on multiple domains on a dedicated server it gets a little more involved, but you can still use Local Invocation to avoid Javascript.

To reaffirm one of the other messages, yeah, you can place text anywhere you want to in an ad using the HTML ad setup in PhpAdsNew.

Well if Microsoft doesn't get your ad rotators, then Symantec will.

Norton Internet Security as default blocks anything containing the characters "ads" and that's just the tip of the iceberg.

So if it sees "phpadsnew" in a url, all will become invisible to the surfer.

I keep telling people this and nobody listens... but I guess that Symantec's market share is nothing to worry about?!?!

Not just Symantec..... my firewall Outpost has a huge list of ad blocking code, everything from #CLink to /banner/ to www.sex-klick.com and a billion others.

IE has had searching from the address bar like that since version 4 I think... version 5 at the very least.. years anyway.

(firefox is buggy crap imho... I feel the overwhelming need to say whenever it's name is mentioned)

No offence, but you have honestly not looked at phpadsnew or know anything about it, you can set-it up in any directory, not just one labelled "phpadsnew" please read into these programs a little more, and think that most of us have not used "ad" or "banner" directories for some time.
