Thinking of shooting content

Hey all,
Ghost and I are thinking of shooting our own content. We would start out rather small with just myself and one of our friends as models. We have thoroughly researched the 2257 requirements and think we can do this. Any tips for a beginner? It would be solo female and lesbian content mostly. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!
Lliandrin

sure, here is a quick tip for you. Invest in a couple of lights with umbrellas (you'll see what I mean). You can find some that come as a set of two with everything you need for right around $200 . thats not bad, and gives you very nice clear images while still maintaining an amateur feel. Play around with how you set them up and how you use the light for slightly different looks.
Next thing, make sure whoever is behind the camera understands the concept of framing and is willing to watch all the action through the viewfinder or LCD.
Once you have good lighting and the framing is good you'll have some descent content. It won't be hollywood professional stuff, but who cares?? LOL

I've shot my own content since '97. I personally use the Sony TRV900 Mini DV camera. It has 3 chips, plus it shots in progressive mode. That means it takes a full frame shot every 30th of a second.

Most video cameras shoot in Interlaced mode. Interlaced is a half frame every 60th of a second. Then Interlaced takes the other half of the frame for a 60th of a second. It flashes them back and forth so quickly that the human eye can't tell.

Anyway, since progressive is full frame you can grab some pretty damn good stills straight from your video. You don't get any of those lines in parts of the video where there's movement like with Interlaced video. Since I can grab pics straight from moving video, I get twice the content for the same amount of time/money.

The main thing to look for to do content like this is that the DV camera is 3 chips, and does progressive (Canon calls it movie mode).

Here's a sample photo grabbed from my progressive video. If you want more samples click on my sig, and check out the "content" section. All of that is grabbed from moving video.

If you have any other questions about shooting your own amateur content feel free to ask!

Yep, I agree with spazlabz completely. You can get some soft box lights (or umbrella lights) for REALLY cheap on Ebay.com (around $200) Lighting is SO important. You want hot lights or continueous lighting for using the method I mentioned above.

Thank you both so much for your ideas. We were wondering about lighting especially. Also that pic is really good quality as are the others from your sig. We will definately check out that camera. Thanks again!

Cool. Glad I could help out. One thing - The Sony TRV900 has been replaced with the 950. The 900 is a better model then the newer 950, so If you can find a 900 I'd go with it. If you have any other questions please feel free to contact me. I have no problems helping out other webmasters.

If you have some experience in videography, I recommend you rent a TV camera or at the very least a Canon XL1S.

If you're more amateur, go with SONY VX2000/2100. You can't go wrong with this one - perfect video quality. It would compensate for poor lighting technique which is pretty much inevitable since you don't have enough XP under the belt.

The MOST important part is the relationship with the models though. You'll need to make them feel relaxed, sexy, and wanted.

I would get a make-up girl for the shoot too - this really relaxes most girls. Also, for the lesbain shoots, let the girls chit-chat for some time - the make-up room is PERFECT for that. If you gonna eat someone's pussy, it helps if you know her name.

Last, start with the photos first - it's much easier for you and the model than video. It's a kinda warmup

Here's a sample from a recent shoot:
