Question to LL owners: Site modifications
While I've been in the industry for years, it's been a long time since I've tried to get into the free site/LL game so I'm still trying to get caught up on all the new rules and techniques. Although I realize every LL owner has their own interpretation...since many of you who I submit to are people who frequent this board I figured this would be the best place to ask.
My question is site modifications....I'm hoping for some advice on what can and what can't be done. First and foremost advertising....Let's say I setup a handful of free sites using a single sponsor. Now let's say after being listed I find my current advertising isn't having the pull/conversion setup I want... Can I change the advertising at all? If so to what degree? Is a new site to advertise out of the question if it is the same genre as the original site I was advertising to? Or what if I just want to change the banners/text but keep advertising the same site? If I make these modifications should the LL owner be notified? My other question is site reciprocals....let's say I create pages with twelve or so reciprocals on them...after a few weeks one LL I submitted to has not listed me (or I receive a rejection notice) although other LLs have approved the site. Can I remove/change the reciprocal to a new LL? Or am I stuck with keeping the rejected LL's reciprocal on my warning page having it do nothing but absorb traffic...again if this change is made should the LL owners (of approved listings) be notified? Any and all feedback/suggestions/advice would be much appreciated... |

For the most part, as long as the changes you make do not break the rules of the site(s) that have you listed, you'll be fine.

A good rule of thumb is build and submit and forget. Unless you have lots of time to go back and change sites when you could be building more. Just my opinion though. soggy |

Actually I am working on a free site creator/organizer for me to help manage the free sites I'm working at creating...basic thought is to create the template pages and have it automatically grab the necessary ads, text, thumbs and images. Of course I'd still be hand submitting it all but it would keep track of all submissions I've done so I know who has been submitted to for a site and who hasn't as well as have it track unproductive LLs and replace all their reciprocals with a new LL not yet used for that site and notify me of the change so I can do a submission to that LL.
So more or less automate everything beyond template creation, selecting images/movies and coming up with site names/descriptions but automatically create new versions of a site when reciprocals or ads need to change....this way if a LL changes their reciprocals or a sponsor begins to suck bigtime for me I can modify all my free sites without needing to go through all the code myself. Initially I was going to go with a build and forget philosophy but I thought this setup would be more efficient if it was something the LL owners would endure. |

Personaly I'm a member of the "build and forget gang" myself. But I would guess that it's ok to remove recips from LLs that have rejected your submissions. After all it's your site (and your rules ) and your index page is valuble property. You better make sure you've been rejected before removing any recip as it could just be that the LLs in question are lagging abit behind in reviews......

Where there's a will, I want to be in it.

Changing Ads: probably fine at most linklists. wouldn't do it with tgp's though.
Nuking Recips: Also probably fine, but give it plenty of time before you do as Bjoofs said. I'm about 3 weeks out on reviews, and some are even longer. Build and Forget: I'm in the enemy camp on this one. If you structure your domains, links, hubs and target keywords carefully, you can get some valuable SE listings with free sites. I say track your old sites and make sure you're not sending good, targeted SE traffic to someone that's not paying you anymore, or an affiliates site whose conversions sucketh.

What Greenguy said...any changes are fine as long as you keep to the rules.
As far as ads, I started a couple years ago to make all my ads SSI calls. If a sponsor goes belly up I can change them out in a few minutes on thousands of sites.
