Batch Image Resizing

I've been grabbing some sponsor content and some of the images are freakin huge!

Is there a way to batch resize a directory of images and shrink them so the long-side is only 500 pixels (and keep the aspect ratio)?

|confused|

Yupz, I just create a droplet in imageready and drag the entire directories on it. Works like a charm

Another 2 cents for you--I've found that Macromedia's Fireworks has a batch processing function that's a little more intuitive than Photoshop's. And Fireworks gets you a smaller file size with much better resolution, as well, IMO. Can't touch photoshop for serious bitmap editing, but for resizing, Fireworks is what I always use.

Another 2 cents

Hey Verbal

You could also take a look at Arles from Digital Dutch. It not only resizes it creates thumbnails and a whole lot more. It's a great tool in any gallery makers arsenal.

I have Fireworks and tried using it after seeing it demonstrated, but just couldn't seem to get the hang of using it. I guess I'm just too use to Adobe stuff.

Coffee Cup PixConverter is also a great little program. I got it when suddenly Thumbs Plus wouldn't work for me anymore, even after a reinstall - it broke my heart because I loved Thumbs Plus. I've also used Arles and it's fantastic, come to think of it I don't use it half as much as I should. Like every one said, Adobe Photoshop/ImageReady works too... so take your pick.

Good luck! |rasta|

Open FireWorks. Do what you want like resize by 50% or copy and image stamp.

Go to Window-> Hostory. Click little disk icon to save as command.

Close your stuff.

Go to File->Batch Process (something like this) select images you want and 'Add'. Next. Save backup copies or not. next. Select the command you want applied.

next. next.

Away she goes. It's from memory but that's kinda sorta it. On Fireworkd MX anyways.

Do you guys know of a program that will make 88x88 thumbnail for thumb-preview TGP's ?

But not resize the whole image into 88x88 but take a 88x88 part of a thumb/image.

This is easy in Photoshop.
Just use the rectangular selection with dimensions 88x88.

If you are just batch resizing, I love ACDSee. Very fast, and doesn't seem to degrade the quality very much at all.
Also great for organizing content that arrives out of sequence, you can drag the pics around to where they need to be, then select all and batch rename to keep them in that order.

And I agree with lux_interior, Arles rules if you need to make galleries, I must have 100 different templates built and use in that program.

Do any of these programs listed do automatic cropped thumbs? Like I specify that I want the center of the image and resized to 100x100 , can any of them do that?
