Where do I start
Hello All:
I am thinking about trying carve out a niche in the porn market. However, I have no idea of how or where to start. I am not a webmaster so I am limited in what I can do. For me, the best option would be to have a website built for me or have a few blogs designed for me to try and generate traffic and an income. I am very good at writing and researching. Not good at the techy stuff so I would need allot things set up for with instructions geared for a 5 year old lol. I sure would appreciate input from all here as I know many of you have been in this business for years and are well qualified to give advice. One last thing. I am limited in terms of how much money I can invest into this. Thanks to all, Franko (lostgringo) |

There's Xanax in my thurible!

Get a camera and take lots of pictures of hot naked chicks, or learn how to build web-sites. Otherwise, unless you have a lot of money to throw at something you're not going to see a decent return.

Aw, Dad, you've done a lot of great things, but you're a very old man, and old people are useless

Buy some books on Dreamweaver, Photoshop , html and css. Start building a website or two. It doesn't matter if they don't look ultra cool. You'll have to start somewhere. Every time you build a new one, it will look better and you will improve your skills. Practicing is the best way to learn it. And it really is fun.
Good luck ;-) |

My advice to you is.."dont start in the middle"..start at the beginning..sounds simple but many people skip the crucial first steps in this biz. They see the mountain and want to be at the top in one short step. NOT GONNA HAPPEN. Learn some HTML, read the boards, PREPARE yourself for the work thats ahead. A new adult webmaster has to be viewed as an entry level position...grunt work..You need to know the different traffic techniques, the different site types, the rules of the game, legalities, costs, time involved..all those factors will be deciding and important things to know and most certainly to find out. Like I said dont start in the middle...start at the very beginning. Joining this board and other adult webmaster boards will help you get a feel for how things work. And then the fun part is actually trying to get it all to work.
Best to you..read the boards read the newbie sections..see what is out there and most of all ..be prepared for long hours and hard work.

Thanks very much for the candid remarks. I have no intention of learning html, Dreamweaver or the lot. So, it looks like I cannot get into this field. I was hoping to have someone develop a site for me that I could run myself. I guess this is out of the question seeing all of your comments. I could take my camera and take lots of pics of women here in Manila. No problem but it just isn't my bag. I live at the end of hooker row here in Manila in a condo. The night life is pretty exciting.
I am having a number of websites built for me here and thought a site that catered to tgfs. I was thinking of something like this site: http://excitingmovs.com/index.php?id=1511&style=green I am pretty stupid with this stuff I was hoping I could get someone to set it for me and I would be able to maintain it. Silly idea I suppose. Franko Oh I do appreciate your comments very much. |

franko saying you want to be an adult webmaster but your not going to do any research, learn HTML or take any pictures is about the same as saying you want to be a Practologist but you don't want to go to medical school or look at assholes

Thankfully I use the Ubuntu Linux so it is more of an annoyance than a problem since it can never install on my laptop. The worst part is trying to cancel the pop-up installer.

Thanks for the link Monsignor
I'll take a look at the link and see if I can understand or at least the level of difficulty in learning the html I need to know. Thanks.

Don't be so quick to judge my friend. I am legitimate. Sad but true. I have traveled here to the Philippines to get a number of websites developed. My original thought was to flip them. But lately I have been thinking that having a a website or two my give me something to do throughout the day. I am retired and have a decent pension. I can get through on my pension in a 3rd world country. Not in Canada. At not the way I want to live.
I don't mind doing work with my website in terms of promotion and writing it's just the techy stuff I find hard. Why is that not possible? Does everyone who owns a website have to be a webmaster? In terms of that site you mentioned I only showed that to give people an idea of what I thought was doable from my perspective. I meant no harm. And, I apologize. You see, I thought that wouldn't it be novel to have a website where people can go and not worry about adaware, spyware and loops that go on forever. A site where you didn't have to worry about viruses etc. That was not my purpose in sending anyone to that site. I know you people have allot of knowledge in this area and that I am talking to exerts. My sole reason for me being here is to gain knowledge about this niche. You will a number of post I have made and I have referenced this site before. I was just showing an example of what I thought would be an easy site to build and maintain. So what do you wanna do when actually you own a website?
Sit and watch? Without minimal html knowledge and everyday work (at least 2 hours a day ) your site is dead. Updates , trade links etc... Adult site like any other site need constant work and don't be mad when others pointing you directions. Those guys been there and they know what they are talking about. |

I suppose you don't have to know html, but you better know Dreamweaver in and out.
But its really better to know what your looking at since there are things Dreamweaver can't do and you'll have to edit code. The main reason you just can't buy a site and have it work for you is that at some point, you'll have to edit/update/fix it which will require you to know how. Speaking as a part-time webmaster with a full time day job, you'll see "part-time" in the adult biz equals a full time day job plus plenty of OT per day. This is by far not an easy business to get into, but it sure is a hell of a lot of fun

I guess your definition of "maintain" is to sit back and count your money. Not gonna happen in this business unless you're willing to invest a little time to learn the things you need to learn to fully maintain your website/s.

If you have enough money to fund it correctly, it's possible to do it without needing to learn html, css, php, mysql, flash, or any of the other languages some folks are pretty conversant with around here. But if you're not interested in learning how to do it all yourself, then you're going to need one or more very good webmasters onboard to take care of things for you. And "very good" webmasters don't come cheap. Don't fool yourself that you can have someone or some company build a site or sites for you that will be easy to run without knowing at least the basics of the languages I mentioned above. And don't make the mistake of contracting with people you don't know, have never met, and who aren't already well-known with excellent reputations on the adult boards (particularly this one). Unfortunately, most qualified adult webmasters are already working hard and wouldn't be interested in working with you on this unless there was a very good financial incentive, and not one just based on earning a percentage of what your websites could earn some day. And be careful ... there's a big difference between those qualified to build websites that look good, and the relatively much smaller group who can build something designed to attract, keep and convert surfers into paying customers, and who know how to do the things required to build the traffic needed for success. Unless you're willing to pay someone at least several thousand dollars per month, and to do that for several months before you see any real results, you'll need to learn how to do what's required if you want to make a go of this. Sorry if that pricks your bubble, but that's what I know from being in this biz for the last 11-12 years. And it's not much different in mainstream, so be careful with whatever you're doing there, as I saw that you mentioned you're already having some sites built for you. HTH .

There are different levels of involvement in this business.
If all you want to do is make a few blog posts every day and promote sponsor's porn, you could do this with very minimal coding, graphic, and server management experience. You won't get rich but it can be a nice hobby. The next step is to start making a few freesites and/or galleries and submitting them to LL's and TGP's. For this, you'll ned at least some graphic editing skills and a good solid basis in HTML. If you want to run a paysite - give up your life - there is no life for a paysite owner (unless you live in Colorado and all the local teen girls love you ). My typical day is around 20 hours - days and nights no longer mean a thing - I sleep when I can't go any further - then I get up in 4 to 6 hours and start it all over again. I started this business almost two years ago with a very good understanding of photography, HTML, video editing, and graphic design. Although I could do it myself, I decided to hire out the database and php work (my background was in cfm) to a very trusted local developer that I can sit down with each week and see where we're at. I know enough about database integration that I drive him absolutely nuts. If you are going to produce your own content, you can add an entire new can of worms. An ability to develop trust with your models can't be learned - you either have it or you don't - and without it, you can forget producing content. As for farming it out without understanding how it works, that's how you end up with a site that installs addware crap to your client's computers. Do that to me once - and you've lost me as a friend forever! IMO - now I need to get back to work |

Well I have been away for awhile. Maybe it was the site that Tp was on I don't know but I had popups all over the place and had to reformat my hard drive. That's so stupid having a site that does that to people. I had a site I would want people to come back and not get screwed around. I won't go near any of this crap again. I have a virus program running, a spyware program and Super Ad Blocker. It still &^#%% got through.
