SPAM Filter
Anyone use SPAM Filters?
If so some suggestions please. And is there a way to allow certain people write to me w/o having to confirm their address? As in, a member writes me from the site, I want to know if I can have it "open" to them, but not all the crap I get. Am I making sense? |

The email client that I use, Mail.app , has a very good spam filter built into it. Basically you put it in training mode for a few days so that it can learn what is considered spam and then you never have to look at it again. Also any address in your address book is never considered spam.

The new version of Eudora has a built in spam filter that seems to be working very well for me. You have to fine tune it a bit & tell it what is & isn't spam a couple of time, but it's cut a lot of time off my email reading

Yeah I get 500+ pieces of spam each day. Without spam filters I would never be able to use my mail.
I also have my mail client set to not download images for each e-mail unless I ask it to, there is a little button in each message for this. This really cuts down on how long it takes me to get my mail when I'm on the road and maybe not using a fast connection. |

I still swear by MailWasher - though it has now gone commercial..
I gets headers off the server, compares it to the big spam lists, bounces spam and deletes it It hjas multiple rules and mail can be tagged as friends/enemies etc. Saves me hours and hours and hours.... I get an unbelieveable amount of spam! DD

I use SpamSieve under Microsoft Entourage - works great. Cleo, any specific Mac tools you're using that help? I have photoshop, dreamweaver, and all of the usual suspects.. but looking for any great mac utilities that help one out in this business. Take care -- B

I always recommend that my clients keep a DiskWarrior CD handy for emergencies. That is about it since there are no viruses or anything. |

Internet! Is that thing still around?
|
I use open source software.
http://www.spampal.org does a great job for me since june 2003. requires using the training mode for some time, but it keeps great logs/stats. I also still have to add certain ones to the whitelist. it comes with plenty of plugins like badwords, baysian filter, regEx filter, urlbody detection and you can filter email servers by country (most comes from china, malaysia, russia...where most webmasters dont do biz with anyways, and those few partners there you could whitelist by email or their email server IP range). it is somewhat like spamassassin (linux, used by many ISPs) just that this runs on any version of windows and works for any type of pop3/imap mail application like Outlook (dont use that unless you want to be exploited!), eudora or pegasus mail (i use that). you get weekly update notifications. it's free, works great and always is updated and u can tweak it to your own needs through an easy windows interface.
