Free Speech Coalition

So I finally get the much awaited letter welcoming me as a member to the FSC, including login info to the member's area. When I click on the Members' Resources link there's an "Under Construction" notice (just like in June). I guess I'll still have to rely on this board and Xbiz for info.

They suck at communicating with members and if another organization steps up to fight for this industry then the FSC will probably loose most members. Until then we can bitch all we want but they're the only game in town.

I still haven't gotten my hard copy letter; but, they wasted no time sending me two copies of their magazine...as if I needed my post office person to see that....

I think you guys are being unfair to the FSC.

I'm sure they were inundated with many hundreds of new members in June, and combined with the legal efforts regarding 2257 that they are spearheading, I imagine that things are EXTREMELY busy down there lately. I've been a member for 3 years, and they managed to process my renewal which happened to come up in June in spite of all that was going on.

How long have you guys been members? Did you join just in June to cover your asses regarding 2257? If so, I'm not sure you have much of a right to complain about such things as the lack of website updates. Cut them some slack. The website will get back up to speed soon and will be better than ever I am sure.

I agree that there have been some communication issues with the FSC in the past (I never got my renewal sticker in 2004 for example), but they have also never been particularly well supported by a significant portion of folks in the business - until perhaps now. I think we will see some very good things from the FSC in the next few years.

And Raven, how would it look if the Free Speech Coalition sent out their newsletter in a plain brown envelope? What would that say about the organization and all of us? It's all about standing up for free speech, not apologising for it. If you are worried about the local postman seeing a newsletter that says "Free Speech Coalition", then you might be in the wrong biz. Hopefully the guys at my post office are not only seeing the logo but reading the newsletter, so they understand that some people are trying to take away their right to lie down with their wife at the end of a long day and watch a hardcore porn tape together.

I suggest that patience, solidarity and generous donations to the FSC might serve us all well over the next several years - the war against what we all do has just begun. It's going to get worse before it gets better.

How do you figure? If the organization I joined shows incompetence I think I have a right to say so even if I may have joined just to "cover my ass". Why did you join?

You make a few points above and I agree with all of them so I've joined, donated and waited. While they do seem to be legal experts, which is thier main goal, they seem to be dults when it comes to other things.

The hired someone to create that news letter and the news letter had adult ads on the back page. That was just plain stupid and I would much prefer an electronic news letter. That wasn't a lawyer that did that but someone that should be smarter.

The business is run by lawyers and I din't expect them to be focusing on other issues. Doctors and lawyers are often the worst when it comes to learning or understanding anything that isn't billable.

They are fighting the legal battle and seem quite capable in that arena and I don't really like people bitching about without donating to the cause. You don't have to join but you can donate.

They're moving into a new area and they need to focus on lobbying, creating a standard message and bringing people together. They need to do a better job at many things if they are going to be a strong industry voice in the future and that's not bitching, that's a fact.

I know it sounds silly to have, of all mags, Free Speech Coalition, delivered in a brown bag.....

I'm not in the wrong biz. I should be able to 'opt out'.
Don't confuse privacy for apology.
