Help needed I cannot figure this one out
For the life of me, I cannot figure this one out.
When i view webpages(my own and others) from my computer, sometimes i cannot see an image on the page, usually a banner/button and usually only one image is missing per page. But the image shows up on my partners computer and on other computers, even people I have asked that have never viewed the page before can see it on their computers. However, it won't show up on mine. When I view the source code on my computer, it's competely missing the image tag and path to the graphic. However when i view the source on my partners computer the image tag and path to the graphic are there: shown below <A href="http://www.anydomain.com/"><IMG height=90 alt="Any Domain" src="images/www.jpg" width=728> </A> However on my computer- view source gives this result: <A href="http://www.anydomain.com/"> </A> The image tag <IMG height=90 alt="Any Domain" src="images/www.jpg" width=728> is missing. It doesn't make any sense to me. Maybe someone has a solution to this problem. Thanks Cockatoo |

That's strange. I would have assumed you where using Netscape since it's so picky with html code errors. Try clearing your cache and history, restarting your computer and crossing your fingers? Sorry... wish I could help.

Do you have anything blocking ads?
Check your options in any kind of protection you are using for ad blocking. |

Also make sure your settings for viewing images isn't screwed up.
Here's what I have for IE 6.0: Internet Options -> Advanced -> Multimedia -> I have everything checked except "Enable Automatic Image Resizing". |

Try shutting off your firewall.

Norton is notorious for doing that stuff. Firewalls as well.
Although I didnt know it actually stripped the html code as well. |

I've heard that Norton can cause weird problems but I've been using it for years and haven't had any trouble (knock on wood!).

Maybe it'd help if you could post a url of a site you're having trouble viewing for us to check out.

When i view this site http://www.realitycamz.com/ the top banner (Reality Camz) is missing and the java script button (to privatecamz) right near the top of page is missing. When i view source the image tag for the banner is missing on my computer but is there on my partners computer. I can see the source code for the java button but it won't display on my computer but it does on my partners. When i view this site http://sites.smoothkittens.com/hfs/b...shaving/?blamo The banner that runs down the right side of the page is missing. When i view source the image tag for the banner is missing on my computer but is there on my partners computer. When i view this site http://www.link-o-rama.com/greenguy/newsites.htm in the table at the top of the page (sponsors) the third cell (Kara's Adult Playground) is completely blank - no image or text just a blank black box. When i view source the image tag for Kara's Adult Playground banner is missing on my computer but is there on my partners computer. Thanks for all your help. |

Your computer is possessed.
Grab a dead chicken and beat your computer with it until the demonic entity is exorcised. |

Internet! Is that thing still around?

Try to install new browser on your computer - Opera or Firefox, for instance, if problems go out, your explorer is shit.

Cockatoo,
Is your browser IE6? If so... I would make sure you browser isn't infested first... Spybot Search and Destroy - http://security.kolla.de/ Ad-Aware - http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/ CWShredder - http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/downloads.html .. then you need to check all you browser settings and make sure you dont have some vital bits "turned off" (javascript etc) BTW - what operating system are you using, and if it's Micro$oft - do you have SP2 installed? It could be the M$ firewall fukin with you. DD

Cockatoo,
Thought I would be able to help but I can not find my notes. Had the same thing to happen on an employee's machine. The bottom line is that you visited some prick that install something that has fucked up IE and you have two solutions - install another browser or restall your operating system in order to fix IE. I wasted hours trying to fix mine. Located a bunch of fixes, did those and ended up bring the OS down. Finally rebuild the box, installed XP and started over. |

Try deleting all of your ActiveX controllers.. (if you're facing browser purge/reinstall, it wont hurt anything to try it)
tools>internet options>settings>view objects. Highlight and delete. Close/Restart browser. Anything you may need will prompt or auto-reload when it's needed (ie:flash or whatever) depending on your activex controller settings. |

I Didn't Do It
|
if the vanishing tags contained words like "ads" or "advert" or "banner" or "phpadsnew" anywhere in the path or filename
<A href="http://www.anydomain.com/"><IMG height=90 alt="Any Domain" src="images/www.jpg" width=728> </A> Then it was almost surely an adblocker issue.. none of that stuff about active-x or browser hijacks sounds logical to me. If Urb saw this thread i bet he would bet his balls "Norton Personal Firewall" was involved.. or something very similar. |
