There are a lot of options with a pretty wide price range, from free to $750. Do you know what features you want, or will this be your first LL?

I run a custom version of Links SQL.
The script from Richard is very popular. I think MML has a link to it in his sig. |

Link Admin from useful scripts (Richards Realm) is a great script. I like it and Mr. Mary Lou installs and supports it. I can't speak for the other scripts but this one is awesome.

Hi Dylan,
Do you use any of these yourself ? I had a look at them and none of them seem to have a way to import from a list... which makes entering sponsor hosted free sites a real pain.

Hot Links allows you to import.
You'll find a link to the manual in the admin demo.

Pity you can't do it from within the admin itself... having to use phpadmin makes it a bit more tricky imho

I desperately need to get a script for my link list too but the ones I've looked at (and that are recommended) cost so much. I know you usually get what you pay for and I'm sure using a script beats the hell out of doing it all by hand with html but.... I'm a little nervous about taking the plunge money wise.
Question: How easy/hard do you all think it is to start using a script on an existing link list? Meaning, could I keep my same design and import all the existing links I already have? |

DragonList does have a rudimentary utility for importing sites. You have to make sure the file to be imported is in exactly the right format, so it's slightly less friendly than using PhpMyAdmin, but it is built in... which makes it slightly more friendly than PhpMyAdmin. The first couple of times are a bit of a PITA, but if you do a lot of importing it becomes quite simple, very quickly. (She said, whiping the sweat from her brow after importing ~20,000 hosted galleries.) I plan to upgrade the module pretty soon, but not in the immediate future - other functions are currently more pressing. P.S. - glad to hear I've made your shortlist! I'll have a couple of references for you soon. |

Rudimentary is fine :-)
I'm assuming you create a comma delimited text list such as category, title, description - similar to how Comus lets you import galleries. I'd like to be able to attach a graphic to listings also, so I can include a screen shot but that not as big an issue. Pervy Quote:

DragonList doesn't have a great deal of image display functionality - you can have site type icons and whatnot, and it would be feasible to use that to display screenshots, but not terribly practical. I may consider adding more image support in the future - you're not the first to ask about it - but it wouldn't likely be any time soon. |

I would recommend you use links2 from gossamer threads http://www.gossamer-threads.com/scripts/links/ You can try out the shareware for no cost and a licence copy is only $150 It is totally configurable so you can retain the exisiting look of your site... and there are heaps of options that you can use. Yes... as a link list manager it will be so much better for you to be operating under a script environment. The advantage here is... if at a later date you are in a position to update to linksSQL it has a built in import, and the transition is really easy |

hmmm
i program my own very crappy scripts lol. if anyone finds themselves with a decent amount of free time, try dabbling in php or cgi/perl, it will save you lots of money in the end (of course for large scripts and sites sometimes it is better to have a trusted script that you buy)
however, its very nice being able to program your own and get everything to look EXACTLY how you want it... if you need an OK free linklist script try LINX http://www.kre8webdesign.com/linx/ pretty easy to install, easy to add categories and review, etc, etc. also has some ban controls, however there is no importing so you have to add free hosted sites by hand... but if you dont have much money, linx is one of the better free scripts you can get.

Hiya All!
I think MML's Link Admin http://www.usefulscripts.com/scripts...ial/linkadmin/ is more than usefull for those who want to run an Adult Link List, cause it is almost a specific script for this niche of market (instead to buy a non adult link manager script, where you must to install more than one patch to make it run appropiately to your needs). And a great hot key against other scripts (at the sad moment to import your links from your old and more than probably already usefull script) is this: " Installation, Set-Up and Maintenance Couldn't be simpler, we take care of most of it! We will install the script on your server AND import any data from any previous link script you may be using." Hope it helps Peace ! Mcbethar |
