Temporary passwords for AVS sites
This is mostly for Greenguy and SmutGremlin, but anyone else who runs a link list that accepts AVS, please feel free to give me your opinion/solution:
I'm working on submitting my AVS sites and I've run into some problems with getting temporary passwords/usernames to submit with my sites. So far, I've found that most AVS want you (the Link List owner) to contact them for a temporary password or for me to contact them and they'll contact you... this seems like an awful lot of work for the Link List owner to get my AVS site submitted. Are there some AVS you already have a username/password to? This way I could only submit AVS sites on those AVS and eliminate the above mentioned process? I completely understand why you want to enter as a surfer would enter. Until I read about why you request that info here, I had no idea that one of my AVS has a FPA before my site. I would have hated to requested a username/password, actually gotten one and then got rejected anyway! If it weren't for this site, I never would have asked the AVS. Thanks in advance for your time!

Can you just send in the un/pw that they give you to access the site?
I'd say that if they don't give you a un/pw for your own personal use, that you should drop them anyway. |

Actually a few of them cover that in their FAQ's. It is advised that the webmaster does not give out their un/pw because if the AVS detects it being used from multiple IP's then it will be deactivated for fraud.
I don't know how accurate that can be though, I thought some connections either gave random IP's or masked the IP through a network/server. I might be wrong, though. I would imagine it would benefit the AVS systems to give a unique un/pw to legitimate link list owners since you guys are helping get people to the AVS. This way the link list owners activity would be obvious to the AVS and verify that you are indeed accessing them multiple times a day for review purposes. It would also cut down on all the emailing/requesting that I imagine is going on if this is common practice for submitting an AVS site. Then you guys would have a list of your own username/passwords and could just review and be done. I would guess such an incentive, if offered by an AVS, would also make the Link List Owner much more happy to promote or recommend to their webmasters that submit. Of course, I'm just a noob, there could be a million reasons why this wouldn't work. I will continue to check out ways to actually get to submit my sites. I refuse to let this get in my way...

You should make a backdoor link to the members area! Call it whatever.htm and give Link List that link. Never give out any un/pw!

I do have a backdoor but some link lists require a un/pw so they can see what the site looks like from the surfers point of view.

Well, I think for the time being I'm gonna just convert these to free sites just to be able to submit them.
Which leads me to another question. If I convert my AVS to a Free Site and I've already submitted my AVS to a Link List can I still submit the Free Site? Should I wait a certain amount of time before doing so?

I would say it depends if it was listed or not meaning if it was listed and u change it u should notify the owner if not just resubmit it as a free site

Ok, that makes sense.
BUT what if you got an AVS site accepted by a Link List, then you went and made a Free Site out of the elements of your AVS (Warning Page, Main Page Listing Galleries, Galleries) took out some images since my AVS have more images than I'd like to give away for free, and set the whole thing up with a new URL? example: avs - rootdomain.com/avs/site1/ free site - rootdomain.com/freesite/site1 I'm not trying to get over on anyone, either. I genuinely want to know what you guys, as Link List owners, think of this. I'm thinking that if a Link List separates AVS and Free Site listings, then the cheap bastards going after the Free Sites never got a chance to see my AVS site. Or the people who have an AVS membership are gonna skip straight past the Free Sites and get what they paid for, so they'd never see my Free Site. Then again, if the sites are listed together then it looks pretty weird having the same site in two different formats (free and avs) in the same list. But, if there were a delay of a couple of weeks, then they wouldn't be listed at the same time, and I'd hit both surfers - cheap bastards and the people who pay. Now that I've confused you all, I will take this time to thank you all for taking the time to answer what I've asked so far. I really do appreciate it. (you guys are gonna cringe the next time you see me post a question, right??)

SmutMistress - I'd say that you';d be safer letting the link list know that you changed the site form an avs to a free site as opposed to them seeing an avs version & a free site version of the same site OR finding that one has been swatched to the other.
Horny Dude - you can of course do what you want, but I'm not going to list a site unless I can access it as if I was a surfer nor am I willing to pay for a un/pw just so I can review your site |

You tried your best and you failed miserably. The lesson is 'never try'
|
My advice would be, make a free site version of the AVS site and submit that to the linklists. Then submit the AVS version to the AVS only linklists and AVS internal linklists.
I find free sites get listed alot easier... and you avoid that whole AVS password problem because the AVS only linklists almost always have passes for every AVS. |
