False Hits?

On checking my stats I am getting hits from this page:

http://www.terrafirmadesign.net/hitgenie.php

I cant figure out why... or even why they would want to hit me.

I have no top list or banner trades happening... its quite bewildering to me.

Have you rubbed any magic lamps lately?

Theory 1: They had adsense adverts on that page and you had adwords ads displayed there. (or ads via a similar ad server)

Theory 2: They have a test script soemwhere on their site and someone used your site URL to try it out from their page URL

Theory 3: Someone bought their product and is trying to hitbot something on your site and might have it badly configured (as it seems weird that a hitbotter would declare their URL like that so it shows up in your stats)

Thats my best guesses at minute..

Could be more clever than that...could be a new idea of "log spamming"....spam the server logs to get webmasters going "wtf is this" and they'll check out the link and see the product....exactly like what happened here =)

If that be the case the sky could start falling....

Kezza 2004-09-05 08:38 PM

I have no idea what to think... but the hits keep coming... not a heap... but a trickle each day.

I'm getting a couple 100 hits a month from thehun.net to my LL. Don't know how they get from the hun to my LL either :)

As Opti said, there're a lot of hitbot softwares arround the Internet, i don't know why these programs still exist.

You should be carefull with that!.

Most of them can simulate clicks on your site, they are very difficult to detect because you see a good ratio comming from other site.

We had something like that here.
But it surprises me more when someone sends traffic to Your sponsor using ur account. It happens. Sometimes there are sales even |shake|

Surfn 2004-09-07 12:33 PM

I don't like falsies |pissed|

Garou 2004-09-07 01:33 PM

the thing is that sometimes cheaters grab your template (html) and do not make any changes (lazy? stupid?). Anyways it may be a threat for Your sponsor account. SO You should email Youe sponsor and the owner of the domain who is sending traffic
