    What Do "I" Look For In A Sponsor?

    We recently had a thread about an honest webmaster trying to get paid by an honest sponsor.

    The sponsor was not trying to keep the webmaster's money but there was a problem with it getting to him. In my opinion, the sponsor handled this problem all wrong. The first excuse was that everyone was on vacation so checks did not go out on time. The next excuse was that the sponsor's owner gets to know the webmasters by signing the checks personally. The next excuse was that the check was sent but must have been lost. And finally, over 40 days late, the check was sent by FedEx and was in the webmaster's hands. But, not before one more excuse of the accountant being on vacation.

    Obviously, this sponsor needs to rearrange their priorities. Couldn't they go on vacation and send checks at the same time? Even if it meant leaving someone behind, getting checks out on time is that important. Can't the owner get out and talk to the webmasters? To me, that is a much better way to get to know them than to look at a name and sign a check. And finally, once the sponsor knew there was a problem, why did they not FedEx the check immediately? Why did they spend so much time with excuses instead of making things right?

    I'm sure you will agree, it doesn't matter what kind of sites or bells and whistles a program has, if webmasters are not paid promptly, they are not worth squat. Above all, getting webmasters their money is the most important thing a sponsor can do. When a sponsor is so cavalier towards getting any honest webmaster their hard earned money, they have lost all of my respect. There are too many sponsors out there to have to deal with one that would rather give excuses than pay their webmasters.

    Don't get me wrong. When sending out so many checks each month, problems will arise. It is how a sponsor handles the problem that I look at. It is what they do to get the money to a webmaster after a problem is realized. There was no excuse for all the excuses.

    I have deliberately excluded the sponsor's name in this tip and trick. And, to tell you the truth, the name doesn't matter. If you are an honest webmaster and have problems with any sponsor paying you, Run Like Hell!
