~ Tips and Tricks ~
Using non-breaking spaces
The character sequence (don't forget the semi-colon) is known as a non-breaking space. Basically this means the browser will insert a space (it will not be removed or replaced by newline) in the text flow.
You can use non-breaking spaces for several different things:- 1. You can use non-breaking spaces to prevent the browser breaking phrases which should not be broken across lines - so enter 200 miles when you want to display 200 miles. 2. You can use non-breaking spaces to insert extra spaces. For example, if you want two spaces after a full stop (this is controversial), like your typing teacher taught you, enter text like this One Word. The Next Word 3. You can use non-breaking spaces to indicate the presence of a character. Some versions of Netscape do not fill empty table cells with a cell-specific background color unless there is some text (including a non-breaking space) in the cell, thus <TD BGCOLOR=YELLOW></TD> may not work as you expect in all browser versions, BUT, <TD BGCOLOR=YELLOW> </TD> should be okay.
One final note : be cautious about insert too many non-breaking spaces into long text paragraphs (especially if they are constrained into a narrow table), otherwise the browser will have difficulty breaking the text into readable lines.
