Small traffic LLs that try to make submitters jump through too many hoops are shooting themselves in the foot.

They are forceing the experienced submitters to choose not to submit to them.

These experienced submitters are the ones you want you can be assured that they will never try to cheat you.

Rules are for the ones you do NOT want to deal with.

Category recips are way over-valued... and are just an unsubstantiated fad.

I would love to see PROOF that they made any difference that wasn't negative.

I think there can be advantages to both sides.

For Categorized Recips:
You can say that it gives you more targetted traffic to that specific niche, the thinking being that if the user went to that site and like that particular niche of content on the free site that it would possibly make them click on your link that is going to your categorized niche links page.

Against Categorized Recips:
The only thing I could really come up with is this might bring more traffic to the site, traffic that you might otherwise not get. Maybe the person clicked on a link that was a niche they didnt really like on accident. This might draw them to the site from a generic recip.

However I think the more places that you can get urls with keywords you are trying to target with the SE's (ie., blah.com/amateur.html or whatever) I think you would be better off with SE indexing, although I am no where near a guru , but that is just what I would assume. I would think everything helps with an SE indexes the site.

Off topic, but does GASS create category based recips now, since we are on the subject ?

Does it create a new dir for sites etc? Would be curious to know that just for building purposes.

No, it's still mainly a TGP tool, however something else will handle that stuff... one of the reasons I brought this topic up

You may get better SE traffic with category recips but what good is it going to do you if you can't get anyone to submit their sites. Without sites, you will definately fail. You can always ask for them later if you feel you are getting enough quality traffic to warrant it. Just my $.02

This has been an interesting thread to read

Let's look at this from a TGP point of view - TGP's have been asking for text based recips for quite a long time now. Now, I know this was 1st based on bandwidth issues, but now I'm seeing the same set up's as fat as the text goes with the TGP's.

As far as link lists, is it reall that much trouble to go to the recip page, copy the code form the text box & place it on your page? Hell, that's faster than saving the button, uploading it & then putting it onto your pages (plus, it does save bandwidth - LOL)

And in the end, even though no one wants to hear this.....

What are your thoughts about the benefits of the category based recips though? Do you think they are helpful? Do you have anything that can back up if it does or doesn't help? I think DD brought up a very important question. Just curious what someone like you would think as an opposing viewpoint.

Category recips do 2 things:

1 - the category specific thing - menaing that people with boob sites that use my boob recip will send me boob traffic which will more then likely go back to another boob site on my list & start the cycle over again.

2 - Search Engines - I'm not gonna lie - these category recips help out a great deal with SE hits to my category pages, which in turn sends more category specific traffic to the sites listed on that page.

I'm a BIG fan of category specific traffic & this current set up seems to be working great for all aspects of it

kinda off topic but reading greenguys post made me think of it... if you are going to have niche specific recips, make sure the freekin code you put up for webmasters works :/

nothing worse than making recip tables and having to go in and fix the copy and paste code someone forgot to close a </tr> before they closed the table. LOL

Big, small, short or tall - every link list has their own rules & if you want to submit your site to them, you need to follow those rules

I'll back up what Greenguy is saying. There is nothing but positives for using this method. Both for free sites makers and link list webmasters. It's a win-win with just a slightly extra bit of effort.
