And to think America was once (invaded by and) founded by people trying to get *away* from religious intolerance and opression...
sigh. |

Over here he's called "Wally" instead of "Waldo". I've been buying these books recently for my children, ages 5, 4, & 2, & they love them. Apparently somebody has seen a bare breast on a sunbather, and other "offensive" hidden bits in the pics. Oh, the horror of it! I haven't read the Harry Potter books, but if you're bored and brainwashed you'll see evil in whatever it suits you to see it in. |

My stepmom won't let my half brother or sister read Harry Potter.. she's one of those fanatically frightening christians. Too bad because they are a great series, and wonderfully descriptive. I've read them and they are what finally got my son to turn the corner from having to read (for school) to wanting to read because he enjoys it.
Telling her that is probably one of the many reasons she doesn't let the half-spawn come over to the house..

What??? No DaVinci Code??? Dayam they are slipping.
At least Harry joins some good company. Since the civil rights movement I never understood why Huck Finn is still on there. |

My wife and middle child loved them and begged for me to read Potter when it first came out. It is what brought me back to reading for enjoyment, well besides motorcycle racing news and finance books.

Great. My 9 year old daughter has 2 chapters left of the first Harry Potter book. She absolutely loves it! I guess I'll be getting the "Worst Mother of the Year" award for letting her read such filth. |shocking|

Actually being British I love stories like this. Attempting to ban the book is going to make more kids want the book, so lead to more sales. This means more royalties for the author, and as she is British that means more money comes into the country (helps our economy) and also she has to pay more taxes (better public services). So go on protest marches, picket libraries, write to your senator,etc.. Please.

I don't believe that any book should ever be banned.

Why can't Johnny read. Because he doesn't like Old Yeller. So he doesn't read! The Harry Potter series has gotten more kids to read than any other books currently available. It's captivating it's interesting isn't that the point!
I remember the Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew series which we all read way back when. This GA women wants all the HP books out of the school library's. She says that the books promote witchcraft. IMHO I think this women needs therapy. OK let's ban Moby Dick since the guy was on a quest to kill a white whale. Cruelty to animals! It's a fucking story. Fiction, we still get to write that don't we? I'm currently in GA so I've been following this story. The school board tabled it but who know it seems the minority (screams the loudest) prevails. Maybe I need to move back to Russia where freedom rings! Just kidding but it's getting worse! Cheers |

atleast the board is not backing down like they did over the spanish books
Days later, the board reversed its decision amid accusations that the move was anti-Hispanic. |
