I think my pc took a shit

I restart my laptop and nothing happens. Guessing that it is too hot again, I cool it and still nothing. This will cause a lot of problems for the next few days. Greenie knows what I am talking about

I am using my wifes old laptop right now but it has nothing on it...not even Word, much less an email client.

macs never die, Cleo? Why do they even have a service department?

Mine is running right now and I am busy moving stuff onto my home server. So, no matter what, I will have all my crap. I backup every other day but, to retrieve a backup file on a different pc would be a little tricky I think.

I am "PC" shopping as we speak. I can't believe how cheap they are these days.

Jim I just build them from dell now. I buy the replacement warranty. Plus I'm dell certified, not that it means much. But it allows me to call out replacement parts for my system over night. Or I can even role out a tech to my house, it's nice not to have to bother with a tech support. I don't even want to bother with someone who built it who is going to want to open it, to fix it. For the extra bucks I let someone else deal with it, just send me a new one. lol

I hate dell... A few years ago, I was buying my son a new PC. I ordered it just before Thanksgiving. A week before Christmas, they changed the arrival date to December 28th. I called and they told me they were out of stock of the video card I ordered. So, I said, put a better one in then. They told me they would have to then cancel the original order and start all over and it would take another 2 weeks at least.

I went to one of my favorite places, pcconnection.com and ordered a Sony which came the next day. And, there was no sales tax.

I have transfered everything to a different laptop and I feel like I have time now. So, I have been looking at voodoopc.com and thinking it might be time for liquid cooled And, one of the color choices is orange. A nice orange tower, orange monitor, orange keyboard and an orange mouse. The only problem is, once I finish building my dream pc, it comes to about $15k But, who really needs 8 Gigs of RAM?

Emmy got a real nice pc just last week its fully loaded and runs like a dream...
here are the basics of it...
4gig ram
512mb geforce 7900gtx graphic
intel core 2 duo processors 2.8ghz
500gb HD
full wireless enabled
super multi dvd burners and cd labeller
complete media system with full tivo for recording / playing tv
wireless kboard / mouse
remote ctrl
yada yada yada... you get the idea.

I've never seen a system run so well and the gaming is awesome. The nicest piece is the graphics card... What a beast. Looks like a hotrod with cooling pipes coming out of every orifice lol.

She was going to get one from dell but the nearest matching system they could offer had a 49 day waiting time on it and was more expensive. Before tax this one came in at just under $3,000cad from future shop and they put it all together as a custom build. they were bowled over saying it was the highest spec pc they had ever sold.

I have never been a fan of laptops, I doubt I'll ever buy one again.
All 5 have lasted less than a year and half, but I have a 6+ year old tower being used as the house server. (needed to add a couple more hard drives and a bit more ram)
My oldest has had worse luck than me, so now he went back towers also.

Now Em's tower - that'd be the one to play games on!!!

I have had one laptop in my lifetime (Toshiba Satellite) and it was an over priced total peice of shit, I dont think I'll ever get another one again, if I aint home chances are I am on vacation and dont need to work anyways, haha. For me personally I will probably never get anything but an Emachines, my first computer I got was an Emachines and it lasted over 3 years and still runs to this day (got it in 99). Even though it was fine I figured I needed to upgrade in 2003. So I got the best Emachines they made then and that is my machine still to this day. Never have had to replace a single thing on it ever. The only thing I had to replace on my old Emachines was the dial up modem that got knocked out by a storm. I have had tons of family and friends that have had anything from Compaqs, Dells, Gateways you name it and my Emachines always outlasts them even though I use my computer probably 10x more than they do.

That's what I had. As I explained in another thread, I took it to the woods and blasted it with my .45 "Stella". Very therapeutic

You probably don't need the liquid cooled, neon lights or colored case, but you're online all day, your comp may as well look cool too!

I don't care really how it looks although both voodoo and alienware look really cool. Voodoopc offers orange everything and alienware doesn't Now I just have to calm down on the options. Dual hyper-threading processors?...not sure. 8 Gigs of RAM?..ehhh. Dual terabyte Hard Drives?...hard to say But an Orange 30 inch monitor..I gots to have that

I just have a problem making payments on a pc that is more than the payments I made on my Harley

having just shelled out some $$ for a new laptop--i'm mad now that i went to voodoo.. spud's favorite color is orange (go figure) and it would have been worth the extra $$$ just to have his laptop in that pearlized orange they have there. Maybe when he graduates in 2008 he can get that.. till then he'll have to live with the plain black but awesome graphic card he got.

Personally I want a computer that makes zero noise.

I don't get why anyone other then high end video or something like that still buys a tower. When I'm home I plug my laptop into a large LCD, keyboard, and mouse, so it works and feels just like a tower.

Before this year is out going to replace my old 17" Powerbook with a 17" Macbook Pro. Rumor has it that a newer design is due very soon so I've been waiting a bit but either way I need to replace this aging laptop that I'm on now.

Besides being much faster then the laptop I'm using now the new Apple laptops use an Intel chip so I can run Windows programs, like IE for testing my websites, right inside the Mac OS using at full speed using Parallels.

That's exactly the set up I have too, Cleo. It rocks. Big ass Cinema Display flat screens at the office and at home. Just unhook it and I can take it to coffee shops and use their wifi or take it with me on travels. My Mac laptop's 2 years old now and hasn't needed any repair or service calls, just a recalled/replaced Sony battery.

Yep, I'm looking to get a laptop with the Intel chip early next year, beefed up with 2 gigs o'ram and mondo hard drive. Really looking forward to it! Sure, it's *initially* pricier than a PC laptop but when I factor in the overall cost of PC ownership which seems to include the constant system patching, virus problems, component meltdowns and general head banging of having to be a sys admin, it's cost efficient for me to stay with Macs - good thing I've loved 'em for a couple decades now.

I felt the same way about getting a laptop Cleo. I figured I would have a good laptop, big monitor and no matter where i went, I would have everything I use. But, after I first bought it, Sparky (who uses a laptop only), let me know...they just don't last as long. I am seeing that now.

Voodoo makes a really cool silent media center pc that works like a tivo with a huge hard drive. I was going to buy my wife one until a new ibm thinkpad fell of a truck and I had to pick it up for really cheap for her.

But, I still love the thought of having a silent media center pc that I could hook up to my big HDTV, use a wireless keyboard and mouse and both be able to record tv and use it online with a 55 inch monitor. Not to mention the audio functions it would provide.
