How was it hijacked? Through fooling the registrar I guess, or what?

I hate hearing these things because the registrar and hosts are the key ingredients to online business. How can someone possibly fake their way into a reputable companies mind or whatever and "hijack" a domain? It's just amazing to me..

Godaddy... why am I not shocked? It is getting more and more obvious that there is some sort of security breach over there, either software or in the warmware.

Either way, if I had ANY domains there, I would be running away at high speed.

aww

im sorry to hear that soggy back 2+ years ago i had ALL 4 of my domains hijacked, i managed to get ONE back... the other 3 the hijacker put on godaddy, and they wouldnt do shit for me.

the one i got back the hijacker put on registerfly, and with i think 2 emails, they had the president of registerfly talking to me, and within hours i had my domain back.

best of luck to you, that shit sucks... i literally went hungry for quite some time because of the theft, the only thing that saved me was the very few rebills i had.

Well how can that happen? If someone requests through godaddy or anywhere that my registrar transfer my domain somewhere else, why would they do it?
Did they impersonate you or something? That seems like something inexcusable to me

I think I know how he did it.

I owned pensacolacoffee.com at one time and let it expire. My contact email dave@pensacolacoffee.com was associated with my other domain adult-stories.com.

Seems he registered pensacolacoffee.com and sent an email to it from godaddy authorizing a change and approved it himself. Do I have a prayer on getting this back?

Wow. Excellent news soggy. After reading last night's post about the expired domain email I was thinking it would be damn hard to get it back. Sounds like you and Chris really know how to put fear in to the guitly. Good job.

hmm

congrats soggy!! you faired much better then i did in this situation

The way my domains got stolen, was signing up for a new sponsor, i had never heard of them, but never been fucked over by anyone. so, i had to give them my name/pass and domains to sign up (like most sponsors) I was a bit stupid back then and used the same password for the sponsor as i used at the registrar, the day after i signed up for this sponsor all my domains were gone.

use different passwords for every place!! or atleast a crazy password for the registrar.

anyways, im very happy for you soggy, i was hoping this wouldnt turn out like it could have.

The moral of the story? Make sure your domain registration records are 100% up to date. :-)

WTG Soggy! Wanna trade some links? :-)

I made the same mistake back in the 'old days' (1999): using a similar password on all sites, and then I fell for this guy posing as a Belgium (he was Russian - have his address, but what for?), who showed interest in buying one of my sites... I gave him access to my stats (= my password), and with variations of that he hacked my email first, domain registrations second, the majority of my sponsors soon after... And he started all that on Christmas Eve - well planned! It was a hell of a christmas, but 2 days before New Years I had almost everything back, thanks to a few good friends. In late January the Russian bastard sent me an email congratulating me on how well I had handled it...

I tought me the hard way to keep passwords secure, and certainly have really difficult ones for domain registration and hosting!

I agree 100%. Chris and the rest of the Cyberwurx team are a great example of what every business should strive for.

Glad the problem is getting resolved so quickly, too.
