Credit Card Number Theft
Two days ago I recieved a call from my back notifying me that my credit card had been cancelled due to suspicious activity relating to the recent credit card number theft in the news.
I'll get a new one with a "clean" number in about a week. I quizzed the nice lady on the phone and she told me that Visa and the FBI had been working very closely monitoring Credit Card activity for some time. Isn't it nice to know the FBI monitor the activity of regular Aussie's credit cards. I was told that I was not really a special case as they have been monitoring the activity of millions of credit card users worldwide since early last year. Talk about Big Brother keeping a close eye on everyone. Well I hope they enjoy knowing how much I spend on my phone bill, internet access and web hosting . Anyone else been caught up in this ?. Well, that is kinda weird. A "clean" number? FBI involved w/ credit card theft in AUS? News stories? That "bank" lady's story sounds kinda like bullshit to me. Did she ask for any personal information from you when she called? Addresses, account numbers, etc.? Why did they call you instead of sending info in the mail?
Whenever someone calls me like that unexpectedly, I always tell them I'm busy, then look up their biz number in the phone book and call them back at that number. Once you've been an identity theft victim, you learn not to trust anyone w/ your info.

Ohhh MY Golly Gosh !!
apparently the card detals were stolen from an Indian Call Centre Card numbers stolen from indian call centre I'm not sure what to believe where they were stolen from. seems like a case of smoke and mirrors going on. There are also reports of this happening over 12 months ago and it was suppressed due to ongoing FBI Investigation. I'm guessing that Visa and Mastercard merchants are squirming in seats about now. Just another excuse for unscrupulous card hoders to request a chargeback without needing a reason. I just have to ask the question. Why are people so unkind ? |clown| Wicked1 |

Yeah.. terrible stuff..
I just received a new and 'more secure card' from my bank. Even though my card was not ready for renewal.. Seems to me they just quietly tried to switch all card before the big news about the theft came out... |

Amex has been bragging inthe media over here that none of it's American Express Users were affected, thats little more than a game of words cause in todays news We have a woman who someone signed up under her name for one of the American Express Blue Credit cards and run up a rather sizeable bill and they expect her to pay it.
I'm wondering where this will end. Wicked1 |

You want to hear another one. When I was working for the governement. Not to long ago. All our government issue credit card info were stolen from the Bank of America. We all got letters in the mail stateing we are not to use the cards at all and turn them in to you local office. It seemed the hacker was able to get over 250k worth of employee data. All their personnal info etc. I never got a new card as I left my work before they could hand them out. But to show you how F-ed up the system is. The card you get is fully connected to you. IE no differant if you got the card yourself. There is no connection between any purchases on the card and the governments credit. It all comes from your own personnal credit. But the bad thing is if you charged something while on business (say a hotel room) it went on your credit as bad if the government took their sweet ass time paying the bill. I had a 1k charge take 4 months for them to pay after I submitted the paperwork. Everyone who works there justs wants to use their own cards and submit the paperwork after like they normally would. This way you will be paying the card anyway at the end of the month and when the government pays it then cool. But going to governemt card way. You charge, submit the papers, they take 3 or 4 months to pay, and durring that time you have to pay to the card and then resubmit all the payments you made to the government to get your money back. Just crazy. My bro has a good saying. If its not a car or a house and you cant buy it with cash then you dont most likly dont need it.
