If you add another 160 drive and use RAID 1/0 then you might have a server that can keep up with what most people have.
Is yours the top server because it's in the top slot of the rack? Don't they have more then 1 rack and if they do then don't other people have the top server as well? I'm so confused. |

A little note on servers here. Most of the time you dont need one. Hosting 1 or 2 sites it's just a waste. Servers are needed when you have serious software that needs to run IE cam shit. Or you have so many sites it's cheaper to have them on 1 server. Also on that note the biggest and best server is going to cost you more $$ and most of the time it's a waste. A 1.5 Ghz box that was used two years ago and served up a shit load of sites per day is going to serve the content no differantly with a new box, you MIGHT see 1 or 2 seconds on the page load but not much really. Its the up pipe that matters. I'm going to be shopping for a new server soon and I sure as hell wont be buying the shinny brand new box that in 3 months will be old news anyway. I have a server sitting in my house that I use for file storeage that I can access from anyplace. It's a compaq dual 500 mhz box with 256 mgs of ram. Have no problems pulling stuff down. I would not recommend using it now for sites but shit, I would not be surpised people are buying those up as cheap as they are, load balancing them and getting outstanding performance on their sites and best thing. Little to no downtime.

I respectfully disagree. We've learned the hard way that equipment can only take so much before they roll over and beg for mercy. Scripts, stats, htaccess mods and mail all place a heavy burden on the box, hampering performance and experience for your members. Since they pay the bills, they deserve the very best you can give them. |
