3 link rule?

So with the new 2257 regs and people starting to put a 2257 link on their pages more often will this count against us and only allow us to put two sponsor links per page now?

I've always put the 2257 link at the bottom but never made it an active link. If they want to check 2257 info, then they'll have to cut and paste the url. No easy click click for them.

Hmmm, I might do that if it means I can still have 3 sponsor links, even though I usually only put 2, plus the 2257.

BTW, nice site! I'm submitting a blog right now!

As long as the 2257 link is that, a 2257 link and has no popups or crap on it then you are usually fine.

What Ramster said

As long as it's 2257 info only, it's not counted as one of your 3 links.

I do the same thing. I don't really want people going to my 2257 page. It is there because I've been told to put it there, but that is it.

No I don't count the 2257 link when I'm reviewing unless it has ads on it.

Since you only put 2 could you use the 3rd one to link to one of my hubs?

If it's a live link it counts. Don't want it to count? Don't make live or don't have one.

In my opinion, the new regulations are very clear:

"Sec. 75.8 Location of the statement.

(d) A computer site or service or Web address containing a
digitally- or computer-manipulated image, digital image, or picture,
shall contain the required statement on its homepage, any known major
entry points, or principal URL (including the principal URL of a
subdomain), or in a separate window that opens upon the viewer's
clicking a hypertext link that states, '18 U.S.C. 2257 Record-Keeping
Requirements Compliance Statement'.''

Either put the information on your free site index page ("known major entry point") or have a link to the page. Requiring cut and paste could get you into trouble.

To be 2257 compliant and comply with some listing rules may require you to lose a link. Think about that when you are submitting sites.

No worries on having an extra link to 2257 info here...I don't count it. Given the circumstances, surprised anyone would count that as an outbound link.

Agree with Mikeyddddd, from my reading of the regs...looks like the link needs to be live to be in compliance.

However, that 2257 page better be ONLY 2257 info. Yes, I've seen a few trying to sneak extra ads on that page...that's a no no

I just use a text link on free sites and galleries also. On the roots and main pages, I do have a clickable link. Mind you as a non-US WM I only have the content providers listed there, and not all the current BS required.

Mainly because some TPG/MPG scripts will actually count it as a link if it is active, and penalize your page.

I really don't know why some TGP/MPG/LL owners feel that they have to be cops. I might have to start asking for their badge numbers soon.

very simple...if its of concern...don't make the 2257 link absolute ie: http://www.yoursite.com/your2257page.html ....make it relative, ie: your2257page.html

Some scripts will still mess up with that though. I think it's CT that doesn't like me linking to FPAs on the same domain with relative links.

I believe the rule requires an active link. This is becoming a problem. Some sites are getting rejected because there are too many links. I have found scripts rejecting some of my gallery submissions for not having a link to 2257 information. I think that this is going to cut down on the number of galleries linking to the sponsor to promote it to other webmasters as well.

Yes, that does suck. If you don't put one you're declined, if you put one you have too many links..

My thinking, too!

Plus: how many of the thumbnailed TGPs are actually 2257 compliant? Not many I'm submitting to... (BTW: I like it this way - I believe 2257 is another hype which will go away! I have seen so many rules come and go over the years...)

I hope it's all hype, but I have a feeling that with the current government it will not be.
