Cool Morning From Windy Hell Paradise

Another day, another ten gallons of fuel.

Actually my idea of paradise includes having electric that is not self generated. Looks like I'm not the only one over not having electric.
In Dania Beach, where a crowd of residents threw rocks at Florida Power & Light trucks earlier this week, City Manager Ivan Pato said he's not paying the city's $48,254.47 bill until all lights are back on in the city. About 40 percent are still off.

For all of you that do have electric, fuck all of you.

Should be around most of the day other then running a few errands.

Morning, I was tinking the same thing. It may be a pain in the ass Cleo, but at least you have power after you do the pooring.

Remember a few years ago, in the middle of winter when the big ice storm took out all the power in Montreal for a few weeks. Imagine dealing with below 0 temps with no power

Morning all,

No electricity problems here. After an inspirationless 2 weeks I'm finally back on track and being productive again, about time.
it's your typical november weather outside, windy, a drop of rain from time to time, looks like everything is like it should be.

Have a nice day all

Good Sunny Morning

We have a slight breeze here and cool weather. I been waiting on a contractor to get here since Tuesday and we left for dinner last night at 6:30 pm and come back with his card on the door, which pissed me off so now we are waiting for him this morning. I told him we are leaving town at 10am, so he needs to be here prior when actually we are doing a photo shoot here at noon and then leaving at 1pm to go to SE Orlando for another shoot.

I just know he is going to show up in middle of a hardcore scene.....

Anyway have a good day all.

No earthquakes, no muddy landslides, no firestorms, no cold weather, and a year around beach full of almost naked bodies. Yeah there is a few reasons that I love living here.

People out at the malls and stuff look like hell unable to take proper showers or do their hair. At least the ones that not lucky enough to have power or a generator.

Angel came over my house last night to use my internet. (A lot of my neighbors have since I'm about the only WiFi spot around) Angel has power but no one else on her block does and she said that her neighbors are giving her envious looks.

Yeah soon you all in the northern US can start bitching about what a bad winter you are having while I'm relaxing at the beach. I may even have electric service by then.

Good Morning.

Jim
I remember that in Montreal and here in Ottawa too. I drove to Toronto that day and to get gas in my car I had to kick my car repeatedly to get the ice blanket off it to open the gas tank. My building had no power for 2 days but was away thankfully. But Montreal was worse as many places went 2-3 weeks without power.

Mornin' all

Fuck me for having power... LOL ... actually I got that offer a few times already!

Another usual day around here, lots of catching up to do, and making some progress on most of it. Easier to stay inside and work with all the rainy days we've been having. Good news is no more power poles have burst into flames in the rain this week.

Simon

Another fine morning here - sitting at the tanning salon for another 2 hours - then home for some updates - then outside to buck up some trees that I already took down - (bucking - the act of cutting trees into fireplace length)
Then my new splitter should get here next week - getting too old to split 3 cords manually I hear she's blonde and built like a wrestler but if she can get all the wood split I dont care LOL

I'll be having a non productive today today, as my munchkin is home sick. So after hitting the boards, I'm off until he goes with his dad for the weekend.

Then I can come back to work and sling some more porn.

Did some work but I need a break from work.

Going to go by the drug store to pick up some more arm socks for wearing under this splint. I was thinking of tie dying a few and maybe painting leopard spots on my splint.

Going to also go by Home Depot and pick up the thickest chain that they sell for securing my generator. I have a chain on it now but it isn't that thick since it is the chain that is normally on my fuel farm tanks.

Some friends called me and want to all met at a woman's bar tonight, The New Moon, but I'm not sure if I really want to go clubbing with this splint on my hand.

Anyone know how to get the stink out of a fridge that sat for ten days with food rotting in it? My neighbor's Sub-Zero smells like something crawled in it and died while farting even after the cleaning people cleaned it.

Still no electric crews in my neighborhood. I'm beginning to wonder if the city just wants us all to sell and leave so that they can raise taxes here.

I dream Of Wires

Get a couple of onions and slice them in half... onions absorb odors really well.

Still no power? Hope your hand gets better soon too.

Happy Friday all!! Today is hubbys last day at work then he has a week off Not doing anything special just hanging around the house. My grandson will be in heaven all next week to have his papa home though.

Cleo I would be really mad to be without power for so long also. I know when we lost it last year the generators were great to have. But I felt like I was going deaf as everyone around here had at least one going. The noise really starting getting to me, but I was glad we all had them.

Have a nice and safe weekend all!!

One thing I have wondered about generators -- you really only need to chain them up slightly more than your neighbor's generator.

Also, since they have that tube steel construction, and it is a virtual rolled loop, a hacksaw through the generator frame eliminates almost any protection a chain could give.

Luckily the wedding house received power -- I imagine it would have been poetic for cold showers before the wedding, but, alas, hot water will be flowing from the showerheads at that union.

For me, a little prepwork on a few things.

Home Depot was sold out of chain but I did find a 3/8 x 9 foot towing cable. Passing it through multiple parts of the generator so they would have to cut it up pretty badly and yeah my neighbor has a 7550 just chained to a planter. If you really want to steal a good one go up to my rich neighbor's house and there is a yet to be installed 25KW one sitting in his front yard. Just bring your own fork lift.

25kw generator? What is he planning to do, power the whole neighborhood, street lights and all? Sheesh! OVERKILL!

I was lucky (if you want to think of it that way) to be in Toronto when the ice storms hit, so I didn't have to live through it. But I can say without a doubt that cold weather and a lack of electricity is a bad mix... one of the reasons my house has a fireplace in it that actually burns wood, not just a decorative gas fake fire that makes to real heat and won't start without power. It isn't really big enough to heat the house or anything, but I suspect I could keep the place above freezing, which is truly important.

The idea of having to flush pipes in your house and shut off the water to keep from bursting the pipes is a pretty scary idea.

Cleo, have you considered putting up solar panels? Perhaps a really big antenna for your wireless so more people can access it? Maybe install a hotspot and get paid?

Alex

25kw would be just big enough to power my whole house including the central A/C. He has a 250 gallon buried propane tank and is putting in another 500 gallon one. Not really sure how many days of power that gives him. Once it is installed it switches on automatically and does a test start once a week. Of course none of this is doing him again good since he is still waiting for permits, storage tanks, and all that good stuff while I'm enjoying my far less expensive portable generator.

I have been thinking of charging for hot showers. Maybe one gallon of fuel per shower or something.

Not sure if solar power is such a good idea in a place where clay roof tiles get broken and sucked right off of one's roof.

And I have a real fireplace too. One of the very few houses around to have one. Sometimes I turn the A/C down real low and light a fire in it. lol

I calculated that I would need a minimum of 17KV to power the house along with the A/C.

At $10/head per night for sleeping in A/C comfort, it would have only taken 12 guests 5 nights to pay for the generator -- not including fuel.

This would have included non-alarm breaking popcorn, movie entertainment, A/C and hot showers.

And, I probably will have solar next year with the Beacon M5 inverters which do Virtual Islanding and grid-tie. That way, when the grid is down, my solar array isn't useless.
