IMO a splog isn't defined by how it is populated with content, but the intent and form of that content, ie content produced solely for the purpose of selling something. If you choose to make handwritten posts it's still a splog.
Of course it may make your life as a splogger simpler if you use one of the many WP plugins available to get sponsor rss feeds into your splogs. Popular plugins are FeedWordPress, WP-Autoblog and WP-o-Matic. Third party scripts to either create or feed splogs are Blogs Organizer and Blogs Automater.

Good point. I see a lot of splogs where people insist it isn't because they write it themselves. But the thing is boring, nobody is reading it -- it's just there to spam. No other bloggers are commenting or interacting -- it is not part of the blogosphere at all.

a splog can be updated with RSS feeds or can be updated with just any means... I have some networks of splogs and mine are just basically taking gallery descriptions and a picture that sums up the gallery. pop a couple of those in each post. Load them up so for a year you don't even need to think about it. It just does it's thing. Worry about getting some decent inbound links.
I know mine at first didn't do anything until I had some good links inbound to them to spread around to the others. |

What a splog is depends on who you are asking There really isn't a good description that covers everyone opinion about splogs. Some people say a splog is a blog that promotes content with the purpose to make $. Other say splogs are blogs with only non-handwritten blog posts. Others say that a splog is a blog which is quickly made and is part of a blog network. Many definitions, history will tell which one is right.
