You know you may be using the wrong hosting company when....
I am in the middle of a non-adult project that I did not want hosted on my main server. So I signed up for a small shared hosting account with cPanel. They set up the first domain when I signed up, but I have to use cPanel to set up new domains on the drive. This is a new science to me, and I could not work out how to set up and enable a cgi-bin in a new domain. Google was no help. So I emailed the hosting company and asked them how to set up and activate a cgi-bin on a new domain. They replied:
"Please be more specific. What do you mean by 'CGI-BiN'?" | |

Are you sure you didn't end up on Windows hosting?

To be honest, what hosting companies do is a mysterious dark art to me. It could be Windows, I wouldn't know. But then it could be string and wax cylinders, run by a mouse in a wheel, for all I know.
