Best Registrar?
I did a few searches and directnic and buydomains came up as good registrars.
I'm looking to tranfer my more valued domains from GoDaddy to a better registrar. |

Surfn,
Any specific reasons you state they are as secure as they get? I saw in another post you state "you get what you pay for", but is that really the case for registrars? $25/yr and a 2yr minimum = $50 per domain. Directnic is $16 and you can go per year. Why do you use them over Directnic? finnbear, I dunno. Their web page looks really amatuer to me. To be honest that turns me off...as shallow as that is. |

They have a sliding scale. I pay $16 per year $16 to register normally. They have a state of the art locking system to lock all your domains or any single domain. They don't give out whois info like most others.
In addition to the above they notify me starting 4 months be a domain expires. each month for the next 3 months. Then weekly until the due date. I can have them renewed automatically but I usually broker a lot of domains when they come due. Go with what you can afford. I like them. I've tried most of the others. |

Surfn,
Thanks..I'll consider them. By sliding scale I guess you mean if you have 'x' amount of domains they give you a price break? |

Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand!
|
I use Name Cheap
They don't have all the bells and whistles but I have never had a problem with them for almost 3 years. $8.88 flat rate. If you transfer a domain to them that has 6 months of registration left on it, they charge nothing for the transfer and only need $8.88 for a years registration beyond the 6 months left. So basically in that scenario you get the transfer and 1 1/2 years of registration for $8.88. I am thinking of transfering a few domains to them but have not yet so I can't vouch for the support because I have never needed them for anything beyond registration(knock on wood!). |

Question: What´s wrong with godaddy ? I use them for 2 years, and I never had any problems.

In my case, GoDaddy got a report of some spam I didn't do and want proof that what I didn't do was OK, otherwise they want $199 to show my commitment to resolving the 'problem'.
Basically, if you see any competitor who has a site registered with GoDaddy all you need to do is spam in the name of your competitor then go report it to abuse@godaddy.com. It may take a week or a month, but eventually they will send the owner an e-mail trying to extort proof whatever it was that was in your domain name wasn't spam or authorize them to charge you $199 non refundable off your credit card. Failure to prove it's not spam or failure to send money will result in suspended service. When I asked them how I could possibly stop anyone from purposely spamming to make my domain look bad, they didn't address that in any way. Instead, they are holding 1 of my domains hostage and there is NO way I'd stay with them after that. So, check the WHOIS on those sites you compete with. Look at GoDaddy's broad definition of SPAM and make up something then report it. They'll need to pay $199 per incident or their domains will stop working. Cool, huh? |pissleft| |

Stupid risks make life worth living

I don't know if this has changed or not but I heard Go Daddy doesn't lock your domains by default so they can be easy to go and steal.
I use http://www.domainnamesystems.com and never have had a problem with them and domains are all locked by default.

I use http://cheapestregistry.com, they are an enom reseller and if you have a few domain names, get in touch with Eric and he will set you up with a direct login on enom. Plus he does top notch service!
cheers, Luke

Directnic is the only registrar I've ever used. Period.
I recommend them because they get the job done sans BS. Never had a problem.
