Hosting hell

First and foremost...this is not an invitation for fly by hosting spammers...

Looks like I'm going to have to move FPP again. The current host moved my server to another noc a few days ago and things have been pretty fucked up since. I'm currently making calls...finalizing where the site will be moved and when...will update this thread when I know more. Think it's time to cut out these 'cheap' hosts and move up to one of the high end providers. I'm damn tired of this crap

The other odd thing...I'd noticed traffic to one of my sponsors from another domain hosted on this server has been dropping the past few weeks. Slowly, but dropping nonetheless...about 30-40% as of now. Yet, server stats show traffic actually increasing slightly to the domain over the same time frame. So, this morning when I noticed the server had slowed to a crawl...I traced the domain. The trace ends at a domain that's not mine...yet has the ip numbers of my domain tacked on the front of it as a subdomain. The domain appears to be new and by the name is very spammy. Never seen anything like this so have no idea wtf it means...but sure might explain a few things.

The straw that broke the camels back was when I called the host and was told that they're still dealing with their upstream provider crisis and can't deal with this issue until 'later'...

Okay...enough whining on the subject...time to find a new host! Hope everyone else is having a better day than I am...lol.

Oh, and if anyone has any ideas of wtf this trace means...I'd love to hear em!

Yea Surfn...this host has not worked out well at all

The good news is I'll be signing an agreement with one of the top flight hosts in the biz this afternoon. They should have a new smokin fast Xeon box ready within 24 hours and will get FPP moved asap. I finally said fuck it...time to stop cheaping out on hosting...pay the bucks and get the best

If you are not moving to Colo-cation.com, you should be How many times have you seen GGandJ down in the past few months? Crap, the data center went through a hurricane without even a burp.

Hi
when you move to a new host with a big name
ask them for advance payment like 6-12 months

and you get what you have now for the same prize with top service
and never downtime.....

One of my TGP servers is now up for like more then 400 days!
No restart no downtime nothing. Its just works like a swiss clock.

My host is located just 2-3 blocks away from ground zero
during that mess it was not down for one single day. Because they have a great back up for the datacenter which is powered with diesel generators....

You get what you pay for. Took me long time to get that in my head,
but I learned my lessons like you.

good luck with your new hosting

Thanks much for the suggestion Jim...Colo definitely was on the short list. I got nothing but respect for Sparky and the job he does...he's an awesome host

But, for a couple personal reasons...I decided to go another way. Just to be really clear...these are personal preferences that have zero to do with Sparky or the quality of his services

Good advice Conny...thanks much

Yea Ody...it sucks wind. I had such high hopes when I signed on with this host...they came highly recommended and said all the right things up front. But, the bottom line is I've seen at best mediocre performance from them over the past 6 months...with the past several days being hell on a stick. Mediocre isn't good enough anymore...I'm doing a George Jefferson...'Movin on up'

An update...the new server is ready and Free Porn Post is being moved over as I type this message

The site has been down more than up the past few days...this move is more than welcome!

The good news is the new server is smokin fast and on premium b/w...so FPP has a nice new home. Hope to get everything stabilized and back to business as usual within a couple days

I blame MrYum - My host (Steadfast) is moving a bunch of shit to a new datacenter tonight and I am in the pile of shit. My sites will be down for about 3 hours. But I assume that this is expected of me by now.

Damn UW...seems as though our hosting woes are running parallel

Kinda looks like your host is/was in the same noc as mine and is now forced to move. Unfortunately mine hit all kinds of problems after they moved too...so it wasn't just the downtime associated with moving the servers. Actually, as of this morning...my sites are once again so slow everything is timing out.

Should have everything tweaked on the new server within a couple hours and be ready to change dns. Will be damn glad when this fiasco is OVER!

Hope they get you sorted out soon UW...even though you're trying to blame me...ya cocksucker

Better not pull em...I'll track you down

Actually, the news is good! DNS was changed over the weekend...as of now, the site is resolving on the new server. Still have a few tweaks to make, but submissions should be up again within 24 hours

As mentioned previously, I've stepped up to one of the best in the biz. These hosting/server problems should now be a thing of the past...finally.

Thanks Ronnie...to say it's been a bumpy ride would be an understatement. Hosting is just too important in this business to deal with overworked/understaffed/mediocre hosts. So yea...things are looking up now
