Geez - I knew London was expensive, but...

...this is ridiculous.

£65,000 monthly rent for a family home in Wimbledon see

http://www.countrylife.co.uk/en_GB/p...roperty/107241

That's about $128k - a month!

That's cheap for london, to buy anything like that there you wouldn't get much change out of 1 or 2 million.

You almost made me spit my coffee lol. You realize he was alking about rent, not about buying it? I do hope it's not cheap for london

I am more concerned with hotel prices in London, myself. Might be visiting sometime in 2008.

I hope Glasgow is cheaper than London, I'm planning on spending a few nights there later in 2008 before and after heading up to Stornoway and then the Shetlands for a week or two. Haven't budgeted it yet though.

Hey, we may be going up to Glasgow too! Plus, I have this plan of getting together a bunch of webmasters for a meeting in London, maybe you can take the train and join us there? Would be awesome if we could finally meet

That would be cool indeed! Would beat that long swim for sure
I probably won't be going until September or October though, likely October. Once in my life I'd like to see the place my ancestors were thrown out of 200 years ago

It depends on the postcode in london, these are just apartments...
http://www.foxtons.co.uk/properties/...n-mayfair.html

It's that fake thing of status living in those areas.

Hotel prices will depend like anywhere i would of thought but the UK is definately not cheap.

When we travel to England we treat Pounds as equal to Canadian Dollars even though they are worth twice as much. It makes for a VERY expensive trip.

Just an idea on hotels in london...

http://www.accomline.com/SearchResults.asp?id=27

The prices on the right are obviously per night and you might want to be sitting down looking through them. lol

There is a British coin called a fifty pence piece ('cos its worth fifty pence - we don't work too hard at thinking up names for our coins). They are worth approximately $1 at the moment, so if you're over here think of them as dollar coins.

Although if you are thinking of coming over, wait a while. Its bloody cold here at the moment.

You can get cheaper, but if you want to be near the centre of London, the cheaper places are not as good. Your best bet is to find somewhere on the outskirts of London and (unless you got transport) invest in an Oyster card, it halves the cost of busses, underground (subway), trams, and some rail journeys in London.

However don't expect a bargain, London hotel prices were high even when the dollar was worth something, and with the dollar now in the toilet they will seem even higher to you.

Only if you intend to hang around the Mayfair type areas. Otherwise its Polish you need to learn.

I think prices in London and other places like Japan are only going to skyrocket in the future. Get your piece of paradise while you can.

Actually I think the opposite, I think prices are about to tumble, wait a while before you buy (in the unlikely event you are considering doing so). In fact before Christmas house prices had dipped (very) slightly over here.

Although, of course, if you are buying in $US and the dollar continues to fall, you will get even less £UK for your $US, so prices will appear to go up to Americans.

My wife and I went to Switzerland for 7 days and when we got back my wife said she would have preferred to buy all new appliances and save some of the money instead of spending it on the trip we took....how crazy is that...and that was last year, before the dollar went to shit...
