Question How to change the host? (AkiraWeb’s going down)

Hi,
Does anybody here use AkiraWeb hosting? I and some of my friends experience lately some major problems using it – for example:
- statistics don’t work
- cPanel is unavailable
- can’t upload anything on the server
- emails sent to them bounce..

Fortunately my sites still work but it’s I guess it’s high time to change hosting..

Could you advise me how to change hosting without having my sites down?
Would it work if I just buy new hosting, move my pages and then change DNS settings in my domain admin?

Thanks for help!

p.s. LL owners please don’t black list me if suddenly my current host would stop working at all – soon I’ll have new one - thanks

Hello Parasso,

What I would recommend is the following:

1. Choose a new host and setup your account.
2. Mirror your site with your new hosting, while maintaining your existing host.
3. Once the site is setup and tested at the new host, then change the DNS at your registrar to point towards the new host.
4. Allow 48 to 72 hours for the DNS to propagate before turning off your old hosting.

This should deliver a pretty seamless move for you.

Good luck,

What MMemmer said

I also usually pick up a variation of my domain name and use that with the new server so that I can test everything. Then when I'm sure that everything is working correctly I then move my old domain name so that both point to the new server.

Exactly what I was going to suggest.. looks like I got beat to it.

Usually a good host will take care of the move for you.. at least we do. Then all you would need to do is change your name servers. wait for them to propagate, and then cancel your account with your old host. ZERO downtime.

Hi Parasso,

On Hosts4Porn, the adult Web hosting resource site, you will find an article called:

Moving to a new hosting solution
http://hosts4porn.com/articles/changinghosts.cfm

The whole site is a great resource to help you find a new host and learn more about hosting too.

Enjoy and good luck with your move,

Allison

“Your business is only as strong as the weakest link in the chain. Many times, the weakest link is your host” – you can read in the latest GreenguyandJim Newsletter. I can’t agree more!

Today for some reason my host stopped displaying my pages because of “Bandwidth Limit Exceeded”. The funny thing is that they charge extra $ for exceeding the bandwidth limit – but maybe the profit is not what they want? Anyway – like you said (thanks again!) – I bought new host, mirrored my site and now I’m waiting for DNS to propagate. I hope that my sites will be running again pretty soon.

And once again - please don't blacklist me!
