Just feeling peeved

I know (ie strongly suspect) that I'm being ripped off by certain sponsors, but I also know that there's nothing I can do about it (apart from not promoting them).

So why do I keep promoting them?

Because the payouts are good.

But I just find it hard to accept that 4000 hits one day = 7 signups and 4000 hits the next day = 0 signups. Same the next day. But there's 1 the next. And 2 the next. Oh, 4 today, that change of colour worked wonders.

My traffic doesn't change that much. Pretty much the same searches, same volume, same uniques. The only difference is the signups. I'm not basing my feelings on these simple numbers - I'm talking about traffic over a period of months.

I know there are hundreds of reasons why signups will fluctuate and what have you - but at the end of the day there's a whole lot of scope for cheating ...

If somebody comes up with a cheat-proof tracking system I'll lick their ..... feet.

I think the period of time when a sponsor is fresh to the market is becoming shorter. So sign-ups tend to drop off faster than they used to.

I also think that online commerce generally has "bad credit card days" when cards are refused or the system suddenly won't accept orders. No system is perfect.

I also think it's funny when Greenguy answers posts using just the medium of smilie.

Hey eman,
I know the feeling completely! These are some numbers from 1 sponsor just last week:

Date Hits Signups
02-12 2719 9
02-13 2971 8
02-14 3029 0

Same traffic everyday. On the 14th when that sponsor sucked ass, many other sponsors did very very well.

I would also be interested in what sponsor you are referring to. I wonder if it is the same one I am having problems with. This particular sponsor used to be one of my best, but these numbers are quite commom lately.

If you feel like telling me, my ICQ is 61470842

Hmm If A Sponsor Shave Would It Be Better For *Him* to shave lets say every 3'rd signup so people would have more difficulties to actually discover he's shaving ?

lol, it is too funny i get exactly the same thing, except on my small niche sponsors that are 100% ccbill and sponsor does not control stats or check, hmmmm, i really hate that they dont at least use a better less predictable script lol, one sponsor always converts on first day of period and then nothing but same traffic etc, then somehow i get 2 signups in 2minutes lol later in period, ok i can see that happening once in awhile but every two weeks like clock work lol......i was in record business before this lol....wasnt born yesterday. anyway what can u do lol, at least its money. just saw the post had to agree not here for that lol. back to next post lol........

it would be pretty blatant for a sponsor to just "Turn off" signups for the day, dont you think?

if they were gonna shave signups they'd consider shaving hits as well to hide it, and provide a similar ratio allbeit a smaller payout.

I dont doubt that shaving exists, I know that it does. Its as old as the industry. Just not in the ways most people think its done I would gather

that doesn't seem waterproof to me, there are alot of people that track their clicks out.

Some of the sponsors use Signup page hits instead of index page hits

could be just chance.... if I was a dishonest sponsor I think I would just set it so that 1 in 10 of the signups from webmasters was not counted.... it would hardly be noticed and would increase revenue substancially.... all in all though I dont see alot of motivation for sponsors to shave signups. They set thier prices based on a model that will make them money, if they are not making money the honest way, then re evaluate thier model I would think. I know I know...competition, pressures, overhead etc... they want to be able to offer $40 a signup but to do that they can only pay for every other signup... so they give credit for 1 in 2... hmm go figure. sorry, rambling.. havent owned a paysite since 1999 so dont listen to me....

The ultimate anti shaving system is here: http://www.atk.com/productsPrecision.../25mm-M242.htm

but seriously... Urb makes a valid point. And I think that is a factor to consider. I think I know who you are referring to.

Why, what makes you believe that a sponsor is shaving just because 1 webmaster "thinks" they are?

There are so many variables to consider when it comes to conversions, and even more for consistant conversions. Traffic, traffic source, traffic volume, marketing ability, niche, sponsor, site etc. I'd do your homework before walking away from a sponsor that may be converting well for you.
