Question target=blank vs target=new

What's the difference between target=blank and target=new?

I wondered too before, but never bothered finding out, but now I did...
From http://www.aota.net/forums/showthread.php?t=20868:

The difference is that _new is not a valid target name, while _blank is. In practice both will work and will open a new window, but a window created with "target=_new" will be a named window, with target="_blank" a new unnamed window is opened.

Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand!

You could even put target=_licker4u that would do the same.

Used to be IE would open a target="_blank" link in a new window and all futher links would open in that same 2nd window. A target="anything" would open each link in another new window.

I don't know if it still works that way.

Thanks for the info. Now, what are the advantages/disadvantages of using "taget=_new" for say, a link list or hub.

When you name (_new, _name or _whatever) a popup you can get more than one link to open in this popup. To me thats often annoying, if you minimized the first popup and then click another link and then wondering why no new popup pops up, but instead it just change the site in the first popup. Might be useful for something though??
