Do you have websites that are mobile friendly?

I got a smart phone two days ago, and after seeing how easy it is to get on the web, I see why people do so. I started checking the stats on my LL's and Blogs and found an average of 5% of my traffic is from mobile devices. I had one as high as 10%.

So I put a WP plugin that will serve a mobile friendly version of the blog to my visitors on portables, and will show I'm mobile friendly to the search engines. Right after I did this, I saw Pimproll just came out with mobile tours for like 80 of its sites.

So I'm wondering if I should start creating mobile tours for my popular AVS sites, and make a mobile friendly version of my link lists that it would switch to if they were on phones.

Thoughts? Anyone done this with their sites or link lists? Know a good code that detects if they are on a mobile, and will redirect them to another page/subdomain/domain?

Okay, I have always wondered how one can make their site mobile-friendly? Is it just a programming thing, or does it entail altering photo sizes and even the text? And when a site is mobile-friendly, can it also be viewed by a computer?

Its basically a size thing. The resolution I see browsing is 320x396. So if you have images that are 1000px wide, it will suck with side scroll.

It is also hard to input (type) things on a phone, so having a drop down box to select pages, or click able links vs typing in stuff helps.

So you end up with long narrow pages that aren't huge b/w downloads (since most phones aren't as fast as a broadband connection).

If you go to http://www.redneckpornblog.com/ from a phone, you will see what I mean. The main page is a series of click able links to the blog posts. I already make sure all thumbs are 300px wide or less, so they can see them on mobile without issues.

I'm hoping this ups our traffic from mobile devices, since it will now be friendly to them.

This is a good site to check how compatible your site is for mobile devices too. http://ready.mobi/launch.jsp?locale=en_EN

Right now I am using mobile redirects provided by sponsors, but I would prefer having my sites change to a mobile friendly format keeping all the content I currently have when a mobile device was detected. I've seen mobile traffic steadily grow, but not by leaps and bounds.

I'm thinking the same thing of taking one of the link lists and making a mobile alternative, and then using a script to direct traffic to it. Then monitoring if the mobile traffic goes up because of it. I'd probably start with hotpornforwomen.com, since it only has a few category pages, not like the rest with 80+ to create new pages for, lol.

mobile is def something to get involved in now if you plan to. there are currently over 4billion cell phone users on the planet. not all smartphones yet of course but that will change over the next couple of years. point being,,,more people will be reachable via a cellphone than any other media format in the history of mankind. more than radio, tv, newspaper/magazines, anything. over 4billion. thats over half of the planet. and you all know numbers rule. think about it, if you got a sale from .0001% of 4billion, thats a six figure income. i agree it is a good time to pay attention to that. and if you cant convert .0001% of your traffic than your in the wrong biz anyway. imho.

but to answer the question, i have not done anything to make my site mobile friendly at this time, as most smartphones will force the adjustments. but it i agree the time to get on it is upon us. good topic.

also there is alot of money in the apps. i have not looked into the iphone personally because apple has to approve everything so might be mmore of a pain in the ass, but android market is open to everyone and you can find developer info at http://developer.android.com/guide/index.html

good luck everyone.

But you should still be able to setup Apps for the iPhone, just not sell them through the iStore.

S/B some money in setting up a nice clearing house/store for all those other apps.
