what to do between work?
I've been a serious webmaster for over year now..fulltime for 2 months. What do fulltime webmasters do with their freetime for in the office/bedroom etc? I just get fucking board out of my mind sometimes!

I spend most of my non-working time worrying about what to do next and fighting off anxiety attacks because I know that everything I have built up could crash in a second and it would all be over.
I scratch a lot too.

Although there never seems to be a "between work".. I tend to get breaks from this screen by watching tv or DVD's, or read. Just got a new book on monday by stephen r. donaldson which is a continuation of a story he wrote 20 years ago (finally, eh?) and already finished it, so now I need to book shop some more already..

Not much free time when I work
But if I get bored I usually play Spider Solitaire, Mahjong, take a long walk or go down to the corner café and have an Espresso |

Oh - I did forget to mention that I also listen to an unhealthy amount of Opie & Anthony
I'd play video games, but I tend to get too addicted to them. |

Having said that, one game you'd like is Star Wars Battlefront. It's the closeth thing to being in the movies, and not so hard that it pisses you off too much |

I got GTA Vice City just before we went to the convention in Vegas last year - I played it for 8 straight days & only stopped because I had to get on the plane

Free time is just an illusion... it is time you should have been working but didn't.
Most of my free time is spent with my girlfriend or playing badminton these days, with some time for TV. Most of the the time the big screen or the radio is on in here while I am working, so think of it as multitasking. Free time is a trick. Alex |

No offence Apu, but when they were handing out religions you must have been out taking a whizz

Free/AFK time is important - having hobbies/things to do out of the house are essential.
Taking a long 3-day weekend away from home (for those who work out of the house) can do AMAZING things for you - psychologically, spiritually, emotionally and in BUSINESS believe it or not. We all need a little reboot every now and again. And... just in case you were wondering... webmaster conferences do NOT count! |shocking| Find something you enjoy doing - whether its reading, playing an instrument, going to concerts, hanging out with friends/family, playing a sport or whatever and DO IT. Make time each day to switch gears and give the other parts of your brain a chance to exercize. |

Free time?
I'd like to have more of it! Seriously: for years I'm saying that I wish one day I could be bored = I always have more to do than I can manage... But I know some things can get boring, like reviewing shitty submissions, or submitting your own stuff, so that part of work I try to break up with something else: · design a new gallery lay-out · make a few banners/graphics (I always love to do that!) · think about a new site concept = things like that... Apart from that: the house renovations are still not finished, part of the garden is overgrown with weeds, the plans for the new house are almost finished, the car needs a wash (for at least 3 months), I still have to draw the kitchen design for the new house, in the bedroom is a canvas waiting to be turned into a painting for the loungeroom (and I haven't done for 5 months), in our investment unit the pergola needs fixing (since Sptember), the beach is just down the road (and I've almost forgotten what it looks like), I still have some 5 tapes full of TV recordings I wanna watch, and when I find the time I go and socialise with friends at the coffee shop. Time to be bored?

Get out of the House or office
We go out for dinner just about everynight So its a like a 2 or 3 hour deal, gotta get dressed in something presentable etc etc I also like to watch the tide going out, So I will walk around on the beach thinking "Ohh shit I couldnt see that rock an hour ago" It sounds loony but its relaxing

NO! Im not a female - but being a dragon, I do eat them.
|
Also - getting outside to do puttering in the garden or going into the woods with a chainsaw gets those wrists, hands and shoulders into a different position to thwart off some of the carpal as well as getting some of the pounds to not stick in places they shouldnt

I have more free time these days then I've had in a long time.
Remodeling my house gave me something to do and kept me amused but I ran out of house to remodel, or was it money, maybe a bit of both, so I need something new to do in my off time. I love theater but I'm living in the cultural abyss of America's appendix. Dinning out all the time is fun but it is also fattening. Also being a vegetarian it is a bitch finding good dinning that my carnivorous friends will also enjoy. I hate all sports. I don't drink, I don't smoke cigarettes so I hate bars. Fort Lauderdale is a party town and I've gotten bored with partying. The mentally ill that hang out at the entrance of the local corner store seem to be pretty amused talking to themselves. Maybe I should become mentally ill in my off hours. |
