What Graphics Software do you use and why?
I am a BIG fan of Adobe Photoshop + Imageready.
I use 'em coz I've been using photoshop since version 3 and never bothered getting hold of anything else.

Photoshop Rules!
I haven't used Image Ready though. What features does it have that aren't in Photoshop?

Graphics are not my strong point, I try to avoid them wherever possible. About the only things I can draw are curtains and conclusions. It's taken me long enough to figure out how to do things in Fireworks, so I don't think I would have the time/patience/inclination to try anything else.

Photoshop/Imageready and Illustrator.
Tried Fireworks and hated it, but then I also hate Dreamweaver, lol. I answer what does ImageReady have that Photoshop doesn't. ImageReady is for the web what Photoshop is for Print. ImageReady does a lot of the same things that Photoshop does, but doesn't have any of the things that you would need if your final output was print, but does have more thing for the web like doing animated GIFs, rollovers, a multiple pane window that shows before and after optimized previews, just better and more web tools. |

I use Photoshop, and ImageReady. It does have a bit of a learning curve, but one that I feel is worth it. Of course had I spent more time learning to sell than I did working with graphics, I may be making more out of this business.

http://www.guistuff.com/ It's free to register and get the tutorials. If nothing else it's good just for showing you what tools there are, and how you might go about using them. Do a search on Google for PS tutorials... there's hundreds of them I'm sure. I also saw a thing on TV one time about a site that actually sent out free PS learning CD-ROM's just because they wanted to spread the knowledge. Some people are plain crazy ;)

I'm not a pro at it or anything, but I normally make my own banners since I there are alot of sponsor that I use anyway, do not update their selection very often.
Here are some that I have made: http://www.friskychicks.com/banners/nd.html and here is a game site I made for a friend, but warning, if you use anything other than IE, the search box is a bit out of wack. I didn't take the time to straighten it up because the friend put the thing on hold to go into the airforce. Anyway, I enjoyed playing with it at the time. http://www.portalsofadventure.com/oeg/test/ Norad |

I'm using Paintshop Pro, the software for the budget concious Photoshop person, and ThumbsPlus.
Several reasons for using Paintshop: · not so resource hungry · it doesn't take like 5 minutes to load · I know my way around it... · it does almost everything Photoshop does for 15% of the cost · all Photshop filters work with it! ...with a little knowledge and hard work you get some impressive results (as you can see with the header of my new site !) I'm actually using two versions of Paintshop: #7 for most page graphics, and #5 for simple work and screen captures; #5 is opened almost all day because I tend to replace some submitted thumbs for my tgp site) and I hardly ever notice it (as far as resources go).

Took the hint.
|
In my pile, there is:
Photoshop. Adobe Illistrator Everything else adobe, pretty much. Paintshop Pro (very good for capturing screen colors and stuff, fast to resize / bulk process files) Thumbsplus Thing with photoshop is once you understand the structure, you can use almost anything else from adobe with a very short learning curve. I also find that the quality of the jpgs from photshop is superior to most products, a certain sharpness you don't get with other programs. Alex |
