A new idea...thinking outside the box

Hi All,

I've got an idea that I wanted to bounce around everyone and if ya'll are interested we can get this going early next week. It's more of a barter than a link exchange. My site is http://debauchery.com ... 99% of the traffic to this site is from Google.

Here's how it would work:

You put a hard link to my site on your site.

I put a text link to whichever of your clients that you choose on Debauchery. Please look at the text links that we have on Debauchery, your link would be just like that.

Where your link is placed would be based on:
1) Where on debauchery you want the link...ie if you're advertising an amateur site, you'd probably want in in my amateur category. Some sites you may want to put on my index page.
2) The page rank of the page that you are linking back to me from. If you have a page rank of 4 your ad will go right below my text links above the free sites
- if your page has a pr of 3, you will go in the next block which will be listed after the 1st 25 free sites
- if your page has a pr of 2 then you'll be below the 2nd block of 25 free sites

To see an example of where your ads will go, check out the index page of debauchery and the amateur page, I've put tables there with some text and the word "bartered" in each one.

The number before and after the text in each table is the pr that your site would have to get your ads listed there.

This would be a permanent exchange. If you want to change your text ad out periodically, that'd be fine. At first, I would put all the text links up manually. If there becomes a need, we may run them thru our ad server and let each person change their ad as often as they wanted.

My plan is for this to be a permanent exchange.

I will keep a spreadsheet with each person's relevant contact info and all of the e-mails (I'm creating a separate e-mail address just for this...and each exchange will only be done thru this e-mail address) in a separate folder. If someone pulls our link, or we remove someone's ad, we will have their info at hand to contact them.

It will not be like in the past where we had 10 years worth of links, some done with e-mail, some with different instant messagers, some with pm's from different boards, some over the phone, and no way to keep in touch with folks.

For the board, I miscalculated on the % of traffic from google, about 84% of debauchery's traffic is from google. Still, this is a good way for those folks who have sites that only get a few thousand visitors or less each day to get an ad to one of their clients, and the potential to make alot more money, on a site that gets a decent amount of search engine traffic.

I've spelled this hardlink idea that I have out a bit better and thought that I'd re-post it here, just to clear up any confusion:

Some webmasters buy links to their sites, some sell links from their sites. Some webmasters do reciprocal link exchanges, some do some variation of A-B-C link exchanges.

I've got an idea with a little twist, that I'd like for you to participate in.

Here's how it would work:

You put a hard link to my site on your site.

I put a text link to whichever of your clients that you choose on my site. So basically, your affiliate code would go up with the text that you choose, in whatever category, or on the index page, of Debauchery. This is unlimited...if you have 50 sites you can have 50 text ads making you money on Debauchery.

Why would you do this deal and put an ad on Debauchery when you can just put an ad on your site, you may ask?

To answer, 84% of the traffic that comes to Debauchery is from Google. Debauchery currently shows up for over 7,000 search terms at Google. The answer is simple, putting your ads up at Debauchery could make you money, serious money over time.

For years, Debauchery got over 130,000 unique visitors per day from Google. Yes, it has fallen but I think that this idea, in combination with some other SEO ideas that we've implemented, will get Debauchery back up to that number or even more each day. When that happens, your ads stay right where they are. Think of how much you could be making then.

Also, what have you got to lose. Worst case scenario, you link to Debauchery and Google sees you linking to a site that it considers a good site (I say this because Google displays Debauchery for over 7,000 search terms each day), and you barely make anything... $35 per month or nothing at all. You still get a one way out vote (meaning a non-reciprocal link) on your site that Google likes.

Best case scenario, you get all of the above, plus you make exorbitant amounts of money over time (just for linking to Debauchery.com) and we all win!

Ok, you're sold...this is a no brainer and you want to know exactly how it works. Please read below for specific details:

First, please look at the text links that we have on Debauchery, your link would be just like that.

To Sum Up:

Of course, this is a good way for folks that only get a few thousand, or less, uniques per day from Google to get an ad in front of a lot more people each day.

It is also a good deal for you folks with big, high traffic sites as well. Some SEO experts think that Google discounts reciprocal links, hence if we link to each other they just ignore that altogether. Most SEO experts also agree that Google likes to see you link out to (what it considers ) good sites without getting a link back. Google apparently considers each outgoing link a vote, and they should consider a deal like this one as you casting a good vote...which may actually help your site(s) in the rankings at Google.

So basically, you have nothing to lose and possibly everything to gain. By participating in this plan, you may increase your rankings with Google and make more money each month.

Why do your reviewers continue to accept links with other people's brands in the URL, such as the following:

This
That
Another
Yup, Another

There are more, but the first three are currently marked as new on your anal sex page. You must realize how unethical this is. You cannot complain in one breath about slumping traffic, yet in another, allow submitters to abuse someone else's brand - which is an obvious form of traffic theft.

I think your link exchange idea is an interesting concept, but I can't see myself doing business with your list. If your reviewers are willing to list URLs like that, how do I know that they wouldn't just as easily allow your submitters to steal my traffic?

We don't normally list sites like that...the ones that I've caught so far had my site's name in the url. I hadn't noticed those url's...basically those slipped thru the cracks. I'm not seeing that as stealing someone else's brand though. Could be, I'm not sure why they do it. I'd imagined that they make groups of sites and labeled them by those groups...such as the ones that you pointed out may have been submitted to gg, my site, and a handful of others. Possibly due to the LL's rules on types of recips allowed, or something such. My other theory was that they put my site's name in the url as some sort of way to count traffic that they get from me. I've never really put alot of thought into why some folks do that. Either way, when I catch that, I don't accept them, but I don't always look at the url as thoroughly as maybe I should when doing reviews. Btw, I removed those and stopped accepting submissions from that url.

Hi Everyone,

Yesterday debauchery.com's google traffic doubled! I'm hoping that this is a direct result of my seo efforts, especially this barter-system idea. I realize that this could be a fluke and the numbers can go back down, but to double your traffic from google is a pretty big thing in my book.

I'd love to do more link exchanges using my barter system idea with anyone that is interested. This would be great for folks with hubs that have good page rank and not alot of outgoing links.

There are two ways that you can benefit from debauchery going up at google:

So it actually works , for me at least.I trade with CJS just one link with one of my sites a month ago and I've got 5 sales till today .
