I think "hunk" refers to looks, where "stud" refers to sexual performance - so one can be a "hunky stud" or "studly hunk"

I think I'd agree with Greenie on this one.
I tend to use the terms interchangeably. I'd never thought of them as being particularly associated with gay guys.
