US Gov't Shuts Down Several Piracy Websites

http://www.businessweek.com/news/201...s-by-u-s-.html

Thank God!

Hopfully its just a start. If Rapdshr/depstfls/hotfle etc get shut down, we might start to see an increase in memberships.?

Does anyone think we might get lucky and see the above listed sites shut down?

yeah a glimmer of hope, watch they go after everything but adult

I hope those tube site owners read the news and start sweating

boy would it be nice if the isp's just blocked out the big illegal tubes in most of the porn buying countries

if it plays out and they go legit there is still to many 3 to 5 min clips

lets hope they get closed down and banned for life and the engines block them also, ratios may improve instead of 1/5000 it will be 1/3500 LOL

If they are offshore then they are out of the reach of the DOJ.

Greater enforcement is a lobbying priority for the entertainment industry, which has lost sales as consumers gain access to free music and movies on the Web. The administration of President Barack Obama is intensifying efforts to rein in pirated movies and music, Victoria Espinel, the U.S. intellectual property enforcement officer, told the Senate Judiciary Committee on June 23, vowing to shut non-U.S. sites.
“We will go after the foreign-based websites and Web services that infringe our intellectual property rights,” Espinel told the panel.
The U.S. sought search warrants to retrieve data from the hard drives of servers in the U.S. that are used to deliver movies, a government employee with knowledge of the operation said before the announcement. Sites located off U.S. shores were to be blocked, with users re-directed to a U.S. government site, said the person, who wasn’t authorized to speak publicly on pending enforcement actions.

that sounds to me there no longer untouchable - blocked out or shut down is good enough for me

atleast something is starting to be done

Banks, domains(registrars), PayPal, investment & advertising, residences

Shutting down the money, and seizing assets also. Waiting to see if AFF, and other pirate advertisers get pulled into this for supporting them.

Federal agents seized nine website domain names, and assets from 15 bank, Paypal, investment and advertising accounts. They also served search warrants on four residences.
Maybe the G8/G20 meetings got some deals done?

I was wondering how they were going to shut down Chinese based/hosted tube sites, till I read they would block the traffic at a usa level. I did lol at them saying "users re-directed to a U.S. government site" I hope they have enough servers for all the traffic.

Oh dear, that will work about as well a preying to God and asking him to make all the evil pirates burst into flames!

For a start any halfway decent pirate will be able to stay one step ahead of the government's blocking action.

Secondly, over 75% of the public think video/music piracy is NOT wrong, so will simply see this as a fascist government attempt at controlling what they can see on the Internet. No one is going to last long in the WhiteHouse if they piss off 75% of Americans and (worse) give the opposition the excuse to call them communists!

And thirdly, thanks to that arsehole Bush, America is deeply indebted to Asia. If these pirates are making a lot of money for the country (tax, employment etc.) the Chinese government is not going to allow this blocking. And unfortunately whatever the opinion of the president, congress, or the American people, America cannot afford to upset China. If Beijing says "jump", the president has no choice but to ask "how high?"
