Looking for advice on making MGP Galleries

I'm not sure if this would be better here or in "Programing and Scripting"

I'm trying to refine my techniques for making MGP Galleries.

Right now I have content in WMV format. Unfortaunatley that format gets me rejected from some MGPs and movie gallery accpeting TGP. Either it's outright against the rules or the file format is not recognized by a Brownie script and I'm rejected for not having any content.

So I want to convert those vid files to another format.
I currently have Stoik VideoPak which will convert WMV to AVI.

The problem I'm having is recompressing those AVIs back down to a resonable size.

I'm currently trying to use VirtulDub to do this but am not having much luck.

Can anyone offer any advice on what codec to use and what settings I might try?
