What tool/site for WHOIS info
What tool or site do you use to get quick access to the WHOIS info for a domain.
netsol.com is fine but entering the verification code every time is a hassle whois.org only gives you the info about 75% of the time let me know pls. thx Fonz |

Whois info
I use Directnic as I have sites registered through them but I find a lot of the time that their system can't access the whois info.
In the UK I use easyspace.co.uk, tucows.com and now goddaddy.com but they all seem to be employing the password access system. I think this is stop stop spiders accessing the whois info for bulk domain buyers to back order a site due to expire.. NetSol often shows just basic info as the site is registered through a company who use the password system, so just go to that site and use the password they give.. |

I use http://www.whois.sc/ - it's quite handy for all kinds of domain info.

I sometimes have trouble finding some domains like .ws and stuff like that.
Mac OS X has a very nice tool built into it that does searches on whois.internic.net, whois.networksolutions.com and any thing else you put in.. DirectNic seems to find some that nothing else will find. |

No offence Apu, but when they were handing out religions you must have been out taking a whizz

Just added an excellent listing of tools & links from a Klixxx article to our resources:
Over 50 Webmaster Resources - by Dyanna S. Culp http://www.klixxx.com/archive/over50.html Under Web Design she's listed: 11. Who Is Search: URL choices are slim-pickings these days. Try these urls to find out who owns a domain name (make an offer), or to see which versions may be available in one of the .com alternatives. Sometimes one site will have owner information missing from the others. (www.internic.net , estore.netbenefit.com , www.enom.com , www.tv, www.buydomains.com , International searches at www.uwhois.com) Hope this helps! |

Trying is the first step towards failure

Theres an excellent small program that you install on your computer and it makes the whois searches from the program itself. I tried it and it worked well. Unfortunately I cant remember the name, but go to www.cnet.com and search the software section for "whois" and I think it will show up there, you might have to look for it tho...
Other than that you can do a google search of "whois" and you get pretty good sites that you can use.
