Trying is the first step towards failure
|
For me I would have to say Netpiddler,
also some things from Surfn, and of course reading This Board.. But even after learning HTML, Marketing basics and other things... I would have to say getting listed is very important and you can't do that without the Help of GreenGuy, MML, and some other classy guys and gals... So, Thanks to all, after all... it is a network of the trusted. Ben |

NO! Im not a female - but being a dragon, I do eat them.
|
Jim - that list of the network groups sure brings back memories - hadnt even heard dirtybird in over 5 years Of course I was still on the BBS side at that time but doing a little interface for my surfers - I believe that GG probably had the biggest influence once I decided to lean towards the LL side - in the other parts of my biz there have been Rusty and Edie back in the old days, Hun back when we were collecting free pics and posting them, and a few unmentionables from the old days when we were scanning magazines to post images on Usenet for traffic and passwords.

wow! for a newbie like me, this is a great thread...to read how things were back in the days.
You guys had to scan magazines back then...and now everything's free (almost). I got help from lots of places, but the most incredible and valuable piece of advice I ever got so far was a reply to a question about a free site. The writer of that reply? the GREAT security_man. You're THE man bro And, of course, the amount of information shared on this board is nothing short of amazing |

Would like to say hello and I know this is my first post but I have to give credit where credit is due. I must the guy that started and helped me out in this business would have to be ronnie, which posts here a lot and been my mentor for years. So thanks ronnie couldn't of done it with out your help. We have seen a lot things over the years and thing change all the time.

You can now put whatever you want in this space :)
|
Without question MrMaryLou and On The Bench helped me most (think outside of the box)
Then Surfin (I miss his ICQ's) (think outside of the box) Then GreenGuyandJim members like Linkster Bill Cleo amid Ramster Then the rest of GreenGuyandJim Members that post (so I didn't have to ask the questions) Now I'm barely in what most of you would consider the Adult Biz, I do have a full time employee that is skilled in the areas that I'm lacking in and it still seems like there aren't enough hours in a day. Without this board I would of ended up going back to work for someone after pissing away every cent I could get my hands on

I want to live. I want to experience the universe, and I want to eat pie.

I could easily single out a couple without whom I would not be here today. They know who they are.
Beyond that - the community at Adult Netsurprise, back when we had Thursday night radio with Dokk, helped me keep my sanity. Okay, mostly. There are so many good people in this business, I hesitate to name names. You are all much appreciated. |

I thought myself how to build webpages and it took me 6 months to figure out wtf was ftp. But that's how I have always been. If you want something done right do it yourself. I'm still the same with my site now. I did not know .asp and still don't but this past weekend I felt the programer was moving to slow. So I spend the day reading the code and by sunday had the site 90% the way I wanted it. It was great cause now I know more as to the functions of how it's working and don't worry as much about getting stuck behind the 8ball. As far as adult. well I stated before I used to shoot for the paper mags. and they tought me 1 thing. there are some shaddy fuckers out there who have no problems what so ever stealing your stuff. I dont know maybe it just me but I have found people in the adult world a little more shaddy then most. You really have to pick and choose who you do business with. Even more so now on the net. But Im new to this on the net and just read like crazy. Most of what I have learned is from the past 3 or 4 weeks I have been at this site. Which is more then I have learned from any other forum. And for that I say thank you all for your honestly.

I remember the milestones in my Adult Industry career. With each one of the milestones, there were different people envolved. There wasnt any one Mentor so to speak.
The first person I have no clue who it was. I emailed a webmaster from a video link list and asked "How do I get started?". The reply was a one line answer with nothing more than the url to YNOT. That lasted about 10 minutes. I found a link for newbies, read one article and did the math. The author of the article couldnt add, or subtract for that matter. If I followed his example, I would have been several thousand dollars in debt and nothing to show for it. But, YNOT taught me the phrase "webmaster resource". A quick Google search sent me to Netpond. Thats where I meet Voltar, who taught me the basics of getting started. From there the most influentual was Dravyk. Reviewing for allofem got me going to other boards. From there, Tommy was the guy that did more for me expanding than anyone. That came in the form of a one line post "We know very well about cookies", or something close to that. That sent me to tommys site and reading the cookie he was setting. That opened a whole new world for me. Then came Pasta, he taught me the value of watching what other people were doing. That snow balled into reading between the lines and listening to what wasnt being said on the boards. The next person I met pulled it altogether for me. I dont know which nick to use for him, but Jim taught me "Once you click a link of mine, I can do what I want with you". That in itself gives a whole new meaning to "filtering traffic". Old Tom taught me the value of learning to do my own coding and the value of learning the power a unix operating system can give you. Learning html, php and perl only scratches the surface of what you need to know. I have no clue what the name is of the next guy, you will know who you are though, your Merchant/processor is in Panama. You taught me the meaning of deceptive and how to make money with it. And, never to do it. Last but not least, Greenguy. He does a very subtle thing on this board everyday that gives everyone a golden key on how to make money. I changed somethings in my own little porn empire because of this and its starting to pay off. From some of the posts I read, I dont think there are very many that pick up on it. My hat is off to all of you! Thanks for all the help - |

Nothing funnier than the ridiculous faces you people make mid-coitus

hmmm that's really a hard question.. i guess the 1st person would be my Uncle Matty who made me bartender at Plato's Retreat when i turned 21.
As far as online.. Tart |cool| who kicked me from in front of the cam to behind it.. DangerDave & Zilla who 1st listed our galleries that are STILL listed.. ok at least on DD. GG... who i learned about from one of my cam girls who suddenly found her pics splashed all over one of his site.. she freaked out (since she'd retired her cam) and called him. Not only was he a complete gentleman but removed her pictures within 5 minutes. and most of all MML who has spent countless hours on ICQ and yahoo pushing, shoving, encouraging and motivating.. and i learn something NEW every week at OTB.. There is invaluable information stored here.. SE stuff from Linkster and DD, seasoned advice from Ramster and Raw Alex. Cleo, who i always list my sites with 1st cuz i know if they get accepted there, they'll be accepted anywhere.. she is a Tough cookie.. and All the OTB crew Gosh i'm so sentimental or maybe just MENTAL.. lmao.. its friday the 13th. |

The guys and gals of the old #hellonearth irc channel. back in 96/97 when we wrote
aol chat room spam software. And the sponsors that used to "overlook" spam complaints back then. before i repented and found out spam was "evil" then it was willieb, buzzard and tia from the old ans days, sandra and the old maxcash gang, and in the last few years greenguy of course. (I would mention dangerdave... but he is a very angry man) |

I'm normally not a praying man, but if you're up there, please save me Superman!

I'd have to say no one person, but rather the crew at AdultNetSurprise (in the era when it was dominated by Frank, Rowdy, Kaiser, Barry Hilton, Raven, and some fella who called himself Greenguy who seemed to know what he was talking about). They were very patient with this clueless n00b and gave me help in everything from PhotoShop tricks to how to do mouseovers, SE optimization, metas, etc.
I followed Greenguy and some of the rest of the crew over here when this board started up, but I still try to keep up with both boards as best I can. |

The guys at ANS got me in the right direction and helped enormously. Rowdy, Sec man, Stu(veltje), Beefcake (who got my ass to a paid host), and too many others to mention. I knew how to build, but didn't have a clue how to sell. Also learned many tips from them. Without them I'd be nowhere.

If it wasn't for him calling me on the phone, showing me how to FTP and helping me set up my hosting, I would have never gotten into the business. (Or my site might have still been on AOL.) |

The person that has helped my income the most is Sean (SiMpLe) from NS Cash. He wasn't really a mentor and didn't help me get started but he's had a big impact in the last couple of years.
Green Guy has built two communities that have helped me a lot. The most notable names in those communities are Tommy, Mr. Mary Lou, Boogie and Frank (haven't seen Frank in years). Ramster wasn't a mentor to me but we started about the same time, met at our first show, keep sharing ideas and he was the first adult webmaster to make a pass at me so we've helped each other out through the years. Then there are a few folks that helped motivate me in the early years. Linkster, Rob, JanTM, CyberAge Dave, Greg from Sic Cash and Cory from Adult Check. There's probably others but the above stand out in my mind right now. |

Somewhere in my box of old and dusty hard drives I still have an email from Tommy dating back to 1998 or thereabouts. I'd made an error on a submission and emailed him to let him know. His reply barely mentioned my error. Instead, it was a rather extensive message about site building in general. Especially noteworthy was advice regarding setting priorities on where I want to send the surfer. Looking back, I think he might have saw me as someone trying very hard, but nonetheless spinning their wheels when it came to making the bucks. That's just a guess, of course.
Anyways...I was stunned. Not only by the nuggets of knowledge, but by the fact a major player had taken the time to advise a nobody like me. I can point to that day as the one when I finally got serious. Not long after that, I finally started making a living full time in this biz. |

JP, Jonny Traffic helped (still do) the most JP told me to do freesites and still is really understanding when I hound him on MSN - the nudge is so helpful :-)
A guy on here called Matrix helped me prob with out realising when he gave me my first 'I will list you no probs' type of thumbs up However I owe my very exsistance to being here today to Forrest who spent 3 days at AOE telling me I was stupid for not owning a computer. We got to meet again in Germany in my illfated relationship with Sexmoney - It was quite a moment to see the guy that started what has been the biggest acheivement of my life again :-) - The fat twat ;-) |

there are 3 guys I'd like to mention here - the guy that saw my "I'm-builiding-websites" advertisement in a local newspapers and asked me if I can build an "erotic" website (than I figured there is some money behind that), Rick from bigtitsfantsy.com (he learned me everything about TGPing, THANX!), and than Shap (he forgived me one big, stupid thing I did, and inspired me to work more and more).... and all of you at AWI, ANS, GG&J and other great boards..

Do we ever stop learning..
Most of my help came from the old Adult Check webmasters and their forum at the time back in early 99. I didn't know the difference between a bmp, jpg or gif. I still know F**K all about scripts, so I have to add Ray of the webmasters guide for his constant help. I suppose I've had a few mentors... There are Sebastian and Gary C, AC webmasters who taught me about se optimisation. Even TLA, Larry and a few of the old fogies were there for me. Gabe at Garill for just being around. This sounds like an Oscar acceptance speech.. Recently I'd have to say the guys like Rampster, as he's posted in this thread Brav, Richards Realm etc. for teaching me about submitting pics and galleries. It's not the pain I thought it would be and these guys have been patient with me, the grumpy old man. What was nice for me, was being featured in a UK tv documentary recently about a model and being credited as her mentor and friend |
