trouble with video
I'm still trying to make this movie thing work lol...
the problem I have is that when you view the site in IE, the videos stall at the first frame. If I click the second time, however, they play through ok. In Firefox, they're fine the first click. I have uploaded the files on two different FTP programs, I've split them with 3 different programs, and all I have is a massive headache I could save them in Windows Movie Maker as wmv files, but they come out twice the size as the mpgs. I'm new at video so I was trying to keep it simple. This just sucks. Does anyone have any ideas? ty in advance |

Hmmm.
Not sure if you know this already, but I'll risk offending your intelligence anyway! In Movie Maker you can specify the size of the saved file. Once the file is edited: Tasks.....Save to my computer....check the "Best to fit file size" and pick a size by adjusting the KB/MB and using the up & down arrows. I try and keep movies to under 1MB. Does anyone know a way of protecting .wmv files from being hotlinked using .htaccess, or is it impossible? Can you protect ANY movie files using .htaccess? |

I can't help with the weirdness, but if you follow Gary's advice you should be able to significantly shrink the size (1/2-1/3 original file size) of a mpeg without noticable quality loss with WMM.
Of course you then get the problem of hotlinking. From what I understand WMV can't be protected with .htaccess, but it works just fine with mpegs.

that's good to know, I haven't really done much with WMM except for take screencaps so I have lots to learn. I'll try that & see what happens Quote:
I'll try the wmv, see if that solves the problem, and go from there. thanks guys! |

Try naming them with odd names rather than sequentially. Then use different folders for each site's clips. This won't prevent hotlinking, but it will keep out the nosy snoopers who are looking to grab everything in your videos dir. Don't forget to hide your dir index too.
