Exchange Rates

Well being outside the US and getting the main stay of my payments from affiliate sales in $'s its become a complete nightmare.

The last $1,000 I banked I picked up £430 after fees exhcnage rates etc.

This latest slump has forced me into working for others as its just not cost effective to drive traffic to programmes paying out in $'s

Just wondering if anyone else outside the US is feeling the squeez and what you are doing to restructure/focus your business?

He's not talking about bank charges (which are bad enough) - but the falling US$ makes life hard for anybody outside the USA!

Your read complains about it on almost every web board, and the alternatives, like sponsors paying in €uros are still thin on the ground. I got ~2 AUD for every US$ back around 2000, now it's ~1.30 - that's a drop of 35% in real income before you take into account the falling conversions and other facts! The outlook isn't bright either with Bush running such a hugh budget deficit...

It sucks!

I like this anti-war anti-USA-dominance statement so I'll quote myself...

ups... misanderstood the thread :/
echange rate is pretty fucking annoying indeed
my cash goes directly to dollar sub account and I keep as much as of it there, and wait for better times
Currently I'm not planning to change my sponsors to any EURO based anyway..

Nochex,
I get £502.51 per $1000 - check out http://www.auctionpix.co.uk easy to set up an autopay account. If you get a check to them by Friday morning, the cash will be in your account the following Tuesday. So not only are their interest rates better than a bank (how the fuck he does that I don't know!) but it clears quicker too. Guys name who runs it is Eddie, top man

Cheers guys will check them out - I opened an account with Lloyds yesterday they will charge me £8 per bundle if they are all in one currency and total no more then $1000.

I know of programmes paying out in other currencies though its all about the trust issue - at least with CCbill for example I know the chq arrives on my door step every friday - Yippe its friday!

The recent slump in the $ rate by all accounts is being caused by the Asian countries looking to move their national cash reserves into EU banks.

On the plus side it does mean my hosting now costs lessthen what it did 9 months ago despite upgrading twice -

I'm getting roughly the same as cfnmparty which is a bummer when you consider that when I started out, I was getting about £100 more per $1000 banked.

I pay £9 per bundle with Barclays and no minimum or maximum required. The sterling amount is usually in my account within 2 working days. They pay in good faith, and wait themselves for the cheques to clear.

I know the exchange rate sucks, but I'd still rather be doing this than going out to work for someone else

You may have noticed that the US congress in a totally bipartisan vote decided to increase the US debt even further then it is now. Combine that with the current economic plan and the dollar is going to fall even further for the next 2 years or so.

Of course we may sell more memberships to European based surfers and that will help but not totally compensate for the weak buck. Of course US webmasters might be thinking that it won’t affect us but Japan and China are picking up more of our debt and we have a huge trade deficit with them. That means inflation may make the dollar worth less here as well.

I know it hurts badly over seas but it’s probably going to start hurting here pretty soon.

Of course they’re going to move social security off the books and 3 years from now start telling Americans that they cut the deficit. As this past election showed, the majority of Americans just might believe it.
