Effectively promoting a paysite without affiliates?

I'm looking for some modern promotional ideas. I'm looking to step up my game promoting my paysite. I get about a join every day or so, or every other day. Much less than I want / need to be getting to make a living doing this. I get approximately 150 uniques per day. The site is 6 years old now, and it is a premium "brand" that is a common pop-phrase.

I get about 20 type-ins per day, and 30 uniques daily from referring sites and affiliates. The rest is SE traffic. The site got 4,302 uniques for the past 30 days. Zombaio stats say my retention ratio is 1:2. I'm billing $7.95 / 2 day trial, rebilling to $24.95 / 30 days. And I've got a $24.95 / month option as well.

I've got an Adwords campaign that seems to do OK. It's profitable, but I'm not rocking out with it by any means. I have a 2.8% CTR which I'm happy with.

I produce the content myself, exclusively for my site.

I think I should be able to produce about 10 sales per day. I'd be quite happy with that, too. Back when I started the site, I was able to generate about 18,000 uniques per day to my galleries, submitting them daily with Chameleon Submitter. I liked the routine, and it definitely produced results that I was happy with. At my peak, I was generating about 4 sales per day with nothing but those galleries. It was fairly predictable.

Here's why I'm posting this: I want to get myself back into a groove, a daily routine that I can commit to that produces predictable results similar to the days of producing galleries and freesites. Right now I'm fairly lost with what I should be doing on a routine basis.

Can you point me in the right direction? Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Start blogging!

You produce your own content so there should be a lot of stories to tell about production, models and backstage stuff. Make 2 or 3 blogs with different themes. One like a picture blog with updates on and off and another one from the shooter's point of view. This should be getting you good SE traffic and convert.

Why offer trials. Ask for full price on joins.

Ok the blog strategy is a good place to start. I don't currently have a network of blogs established, but I should get going on it. Do you have any advice on blog traffic "best practices"? I'm assuming you have some experience doing this.

I'm actually about to lower my prices to $7.99 following the trend of Netflix Streaming and Hulu, aiming for "sign up and forget it" strategy.

I wrote this for another forum a few weeks back, this is just one method and a good way to get the ball rolling.

1) Install Wordpress (also known here on as wp) onto your domain and get that all setup. There are plenty of tutorials out there that can help you with this if you get stuck.

2) Load up your blog with posts. The great thing about WP is it allows you to schedule posts to be automatically posted on a pre-set date of your choosing in the future. This allows you to sit down in a day and pump out 60 posts or how ever many you like. If you schedule them to post 1 every 2 days, that's loads to keep your blog fresh for months to come while you work on other things.

3) For each post on your blog, I would use the format of 1 embedded video tube clip (provided by a sponsor program in your niche) and a few lines of descriptive hand written pornographic text and followed by your sale link that your sponsor program gave you.

4) Now I like to use a few free blog hosts. Create an account at one or a few of these. Most people like Thumbblogger I hear. Now on the freehost make a few blogs using the same process as you did on your main wordpress blog. The difference though is that the quality of these can be really shitty. Because it's on a freehost you don’t want to put too much effort into it. On each of these sites you make, put a link back to your main wp blog.

5) Find a list of blog directories, these are ranking sites where you can submit your freehosted blogs too. I will post a few good ones in the next step and submit all of your freehosted sites to them. The idea of this is they will send Search engine spiders and clicks to your freehosted sites. They will then spot your backlinks to main WP sites and follow them back. The reason why it's better to do this, than submit your main wp site to the directories is because most directories give you a shitty backlink so why bother reciprocating from a quality wp site.

6) A list of blog directories that you can use to submit your FH blogs too:

7) Search out for some quality link trades with your main wp site. Don't trade links with other shitty freehost sites, spammy looking sites or sites that look like shit. You only want quality, relevant and decent hand written sites linking to you and vice versa.

8) Now this should all be under control you can do other things like read up on gallery submission, free site submission, tube submits and so on.

9) Start building new main wp sites and repeat the same process as above. As time goes by, go back to your existing main wp sites and add fresh posts to them so they don't get stale. Also keep an eye on your link trades to make sure your trade partners haven't dropped your link or played any funny business on you. There are tools to help you monitor them, just do a search for them.

10) Now you should be starting to grow a nice little network of sites. If you don't get good results with your chosen niche, move onto another one or try mixing up the sponsor programs you are sending traffic too. Just because program A works for me, doesn't mean it will convert as well for you.

Also be sure to split test your traffic over time. This is sending x hits to sponsor A and Y hits to sponsor B. Stick with the sponsor that makes you the most cash per click.

Also keep in mind you wont be crazy rich after 5 days of doing this, 5 months or maybe even 1 year. But if you keep your nose down, keep building sites, keep doing your market & keyword research, keep building trades, keep adding fresh posts to your sites and always growing traffic, you will start to make sales and earn a nice little income for yourself.

Just remember there will days you will want to tear your hair out and quit, there will be times sponsor programs fuck off with the $$ you have earnt, there will be times when your hosting fucks up, there will be times when someone fucks you over be it a trade or other. But at the end of the day you just have to brush it off and keep on building and working.

This is a job like any other, if you make it past 2 years online then you are doing better then the 10,000 newbies that came before you.

Use mediums like video sites to submit your videos making it viral. Blog for it. Posting articles that are catchy not too promotional.

Most of what I do is blogging, two tips I would give. Write for people not search engines, sure use a keyword list but try to keep it readable and interesting, and aim for over 200 words a post at least.

Second thing, don't link them all together, but once you have a few posts up on them register at Linkspun and get some trades going there.

What would the argument be against linking them all together? I thought the goal for most people was to try to keep surfers contained entirely within your network. Much how the CJ sites operated in the past, once you got in... you couldn't get out, unless you clicked an ad banner.

If you link TOO tightly, it looks like you are trying to artificially inflate your popularity to google.

I suggest you also get back into galleries and free site submits daily. If that was working for you, why not go back to it?

And also add the blogs. Depending upon what your site is about, if it is a smaller niche, you might be able to figure out some keywords to try for, and use those for blog domains, driving traffic to you site. And make sure you use tagging, (I like the Better Tag Cloud plugin) I have tags on my main blog that rank very well in search engines.

What I do is submit galleries and/or free sites, then blog about that free site, with links to it and a few sample pics (or sample vid if that is your thing), and maybe 1 direct link to my premium site. That way I'm double promoting everything I submit.

Use twitter as a marketing tool. it has done wonders for us and we see a 1:150 conversion on everyone who follows one of our twitter links The key is to get alot of followers that would be interested in your product and to not have your tweets be too spamy. pepper them in with other funny and topical news tweets so people follow you.
