My deepest condolences, Simon. You're a good man, and remember, even though it will sometimes seems like next to nothing, you'll always have your memories of her.

And in the end the love you take is equal to the love you make.

When things like this happen to someone you respect, it always makes you think. While I hope I do, I'm not sure I have the strength it would take to do what you have done.

Much respect and heart felt condolences

I'm touched deeply by your supportive posts. These last couple of days have been rough; having to let her friends and family know what happened, and arranging for her cremation and other final details. Stopping by here when I had a few free minutes definitely helped brighten my days.

Karen - synchronicity still surprises - that quote was one of the last things she wrote in her journal.

God Simon, I read that and just choked up. I hope I didn't upset you. For me that quote has always been something worth saying in times of grief. I've kept it close when friends and relatives have died.

It's Friday night, I raise a glass to you and your friend.

ditto here.. I got a shiver and sitting here crying. There really are only 6 (or less) degrees that separate us. and the web really cuts that down to 1.

Thank you Emma and thanks Sparky.

It's still strange not to be able to walk into one room or another to find her reading or painting or getting her things ready so she could go sit by the canal out back and fish for awhile. Four days later and you'd think I'd know she's not going to be in that next room, so maybe there's some other reason I keep wandering from room to room around here.

Aside from that, her doctor's been out of town and out of touch, so the cremation is still on hold waiting for him to sign the death certificate. Which pushes back the plans for boating out to the Gulf Stream to scatter her ashes.

Oh yeah, and the Navy denied her son any leave time to come home for his mother's death. I don't thinks that's a smart way to get someone to want to stay in the Navy, but I'm sure the folks who run things must know what they're doing.

I'm going to try to relax a little this weekend and recharge my batteries for getting things done next week. Might even be able to make it to OTB today if nothing new comes up.
