Big girl bed..

is KILLING ME!!!!

On Sunday my soon to be three year old asked me when I woke up, "Daddy, can you please get me a big girl bed, a Dora the explorer bed?"

She has been great with the potty training, and here I sit, she will never return to her crib, and she CONSTANTLY, AND I MEAN CONSTANTLY gets out of her "Big girl bed", for 100 different reasons blowing away at least 2 hrs of each night fighting with her about staying in bed.....

Will it ever end?

Shoot me please.

my youngest has dora everything and thats a bad habit with getting them to sleep on there own and letting them sleep with you, once in awile turns into every night.. we got two girls 8 and 5

We had to put my youngest back in a crib. As soon as his feet grow through the bars, we'll try the "big boy" Bob the Builder bed again.

When my son learned how to climb out of his crib, we decided to dissuade that behavior by baby-gating is doorway. Of course, he climbed over the gate. So we raised it several inches off of the floor. We watched from the dark end of the hall as he began tossing out his stuffed animals into the hall, thinking he was just being a dink. Then he climbed up, tumbled over, and landed softly on his animals. He was just preparing for a rough landing! Little shit.

And no, it does not get any better.

My daughter turned 6 today and she still gets in bed with us occassionally but fortuneately it's not usually until like 6 am.

I definately feel your pain. We waste about three hours on average at night getting our three year old to bed. She used to be good about going to sleep in her "big girl bed" but the last six months have been hell. We had to tell her daycare to not let her nap after a few 2am nights. Good luck! LOL

I used to have a REALLY tough time getting my daughter to sleep in her own bed, but I found that setting a routine (brushing her teeth, bedtime story, a lullaby, whatever) that takes a while (our bedtime routine takes about a half hour now, which is a long time to a kid) and sticking to it helped ALOT. At first there was lots of screaming and tantrums but we stuck to our guns and now she goes to bed without arguement (most of the time). I'd suggest trying that, kids crave routine, and once she figures out that this is a battle she isn't going to win, you'll be happy you stuck it out - I sure am

Well I have to say this doesnt make me much happier about the future, here's an update though, what took 3hrs than 2hrs is now down to an hour, Ill take that over 3hrs any day of the week, and she sleeps the whole night through which is a good thing. I would love it to be easy like it use to be, dinner, a bath, brush teeth, bed time story, kiss goodnight and that was all she wrote..... Those were the days.
