Sunday 06 July - A day when all Americans are hung over from two days of celebrating their independence, and a day when I took a step backwards in time, OS wise.
From tomorrow I'm house sitting a friend's place for eleven days. This means I will be using the laptop rather than the desktop. The laptop is Vista, and I am so sick of Vista that I went to a computer fair this morning looking for a cheap XP install disk, or a cheap post Vista install disk. All post Vista disks were a bit expensive, and as I will be using the laptop for website design XP would have been better anyway (most people still have XP/IE8, so I design for that). Unfortunately no one had old XP disks for sale, so I ended up spending a little over the equivalent of $100 on a second hand laptop with XP already installed.
That a mean skinflint like me is prepared to pay over $100 to go backwards one generation shows exactly how shit Vista must be! |

Happy Mac user here.
I seem to have come down with a very nasty sore throat. Oddly I don't feel that sick but my throat is killing me. It's storming outside so it's a good day to stay indoors and watch movies. |

Good Day
The whole weekend is sorta a break from work meaning do a little work in the morning and enjoy the rest of the day. Purchased a new (bigger) bed, watched a couple of movies, went to D-land and today family is coming over. Kinda nice |

Good evening,
Now that Belgium is no longer in the World Cup we can focus on the normal stuff again. Had a nice brunch with some friends this morning and in the afternoon a good gathering with some other friends, also with some eating and drinking involved. Now I just ordered some kebab which should arrive in half an hour I hope. Hurray for Sunday Have a good day all! |

Got the laptop all programmed and filed up. Just a couple of silly problems.
First off I could not remember my own email address to set it up for emails, had to boot up the desktop and find an old email that had been sent to me! Secondly, one of the things I wanted to do was load a pile of PDF files of old Sci-Fi pulps, to read while away. My sister had given me hundreds on a set of DVDs for my birthday. I put the first disk in, the machine did not even recognise it as a disk. I tried a couple of other disks, no luck. So I tried turning them over in case the drive was upside down. Still no luck. After a lot of swearing I realised the drive on the laptop was a CD drive, and I was trying to load DVDs into it. I had to to transfer the DVDs to my external HD via my desktop, then from the external HD to the laptop, it was a slow business. Still, at least I got half the packing done already, I decided not to watch Amazon TV when I realised how much bandwidth I am burning up, I don't want to go over my monthly allowance and have to buy more! Maybe go and finish the packing now! |
